Frontdoor and fidonet? reddit / bbs ---------------------------------------------------------------------- doctorfastin · 2020-02-26 15:19 I have my os2 bbs ready to go live but would like to have fidonet like I had in the old days. I have a copy of Frontdoor mailer program for OS/2. Do the fidonet hubs still connect to the protocol used by Frondoor or would I be wasting my time setting it up again? What do you present day guys use to send and receive netmail? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ozznixon · 2020-02-26 20:15 That is awesome to here. There are around 1,400 active nodes globally, so it has shrank. The nodelist can be found: [http://www.filegate.net/ nodelist/index.html](http://www.filegate.net/nodelist/index.html) As you skim through the latest node list, what you are looking for is any entries with an IFC line. Per evolution past FroDo, we use anything with the BinkP protocol. It works much more like YModem-G/ZModem, just blasting out the data and reporting errors at the end. I wrote my own implementation, so I am not familiar with the setup of others, however, BinkD is the "Gold Standard" for the protocol. [http://old.vk.pp.ru/docs/binkd/index.htm#install.bin.os2\_win](http:/ /old.vk.pp.ru/docs/binkd/index.htm#install.bin.os2_win) Best of luck - with BinkP setup, you can poll your RC. If you get stuck, there are a few OS/2 operators on [fb.com/groups/bbsing2.0/](https://fb.com/groups/bbsing2.0/) the admin for that group runs OS/2 also. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Muccahiya · 2020-03-28 22:22 >http://www.filegate.net/nodelist/index.html LOL good to see BBS people still at it. Copernicus for Mac OS (OS 7?) back in 1991. Good times. That and CI$. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- mmunson · 2020-04-01 22:58 There are some hubs that will use virtual modem, but that is not the majority of people.
