BBS Client for Linux/Debian/Raspbian? reddit / bbs ---------------------------------------------------------------------- speeb · 2020-02-03 00:46 I'm putzing around with a Raspberry Pi that has been sitting in storage for a while. I've installed Synchronet and will be working my way through getting that set up, but in the meantime, I mostly just want to use it for light browsing and connecting to a few BBS's to play LORD and such. The problem I'm running into is that all the terminal programs I'm finding seem to default to an Eastern encoding, I guess? It's not translating text, obviously, but all the ANSI characters are coming through as Chinese or Taiwanese (I guess? IDK, sorry) characters. I can't for the life of me figure out how to get ANSI characters to display. Can anyone recommend a client that either comes pre-configured to deal with ANSI or explain what I need to do to make it work? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- RazorKitten · 2020-02-03 01:13 I just use [SyncTerm](https://syncterm.bbsdev.net/) It works and works well. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- speeb · 2020-02-03 02:10 Ha. I didn't even think to look if it was available. Tried building it and it won't run, but this is a good start. Thank you! ---------------------------------------------------------------------- GoldenArmada · 2020-02-03 02:40 What architecture are you building it for? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- speeb · 2020-02-03 03:20 Pretty certain I grabbed the 32 bit archive. So that's probably my problem. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- GlassHalfSand · 2020-02-03 03:40 After trying several I went back to SyncTerm. I had to install this for ANSI to show correctly: https://github.com/keaston/cp437 ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Serojin · 2020-02-03 11:36 I use [Netrunner](http://www.mysticbbs.com/downloads.html) Having the same issue with ANSI not being rendered properly, this worked out of the box. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- speeb · 2020-02-05 01:19 Thanks! I'll check that out!
