Modem init reddit / bbs ---------------------------------------------------------------------- doctorfastin · 2020-02-02 18:14 I have been scouring the interweb for a modem init string that works with vmodem under OS/2. I am loading Remote Access BBS software in a OS/2 vm using virtual box. RA loads and initializes the modem with ATE0H0S0=1| and I have answer is set to ATAS0=1|The board answers and shows the connect speed etc but then sends a ATAS0=1 to my telnet terminal and sits there until I hang up the session. Does vmodem have its own set of AT commands? I am using the utilities that came with sio2k archive to load vsio and vmodem. I am connecting to the bbs using netrunner. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- HaveALooksy · 2020-02-02 19:53 No AT&F? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- [deleted] · 2020-02-02 21:17 Hrm. I have T\*A\*G set up on a Thinkpad T41under OS/2 with sio2k and it works without any issues. Pretty sure I'm just using 'ATZ' for the init string, and the defaults for answer and hangup. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- doctorfastin · 2020-02-02 22:25 That gave me a modem error when trying to load RA. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- JJHall_ID · 2020-02-03 07:12 If memory serves, all you need to answer is ATA, but you're already telling it to auto answer with the S0=1 in the initialization string. So you're telling the modern to auto answer on 1 ring, then when it rings you're sending a command string to the already off-hook modem. The modem is not in command mode so it dutifully sends that string to the remote terminal. I think it will probably behave as expected if you remove the S0 from the initialization string. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- mro_1337 · 2020-02-10 17:18 he said init, not answer code. ata means answer ---------------------------------------------------------------------- mro_1337 · 2020-02-10 17:19 just use atz(carriage return) ---------------------------------------------------------------------- JJHall_ID · 2020-02-10 23:24 Correct, but he's telling the modem to auto answer in the init string. Then when the modem sends a ring status to the software it's sending an ATA command. He doesn't need both. If the modem is auto answering before the answer command is sent, then the modem is going to push that command as text to the remote terminal unless it's prefixed with the command escape sequence. This probably would be ignored back in the real modem days, but with a virtual modem it will be very apparent without the handshake delay. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- mro_1337 · 2020-03-28 21:54 that's factory defaults
