Javascript LORD - Porting Character Data reddit / bbs ---------------------------------------------------------------------- belthesar · 2020-01-15 02:01 Hi folks! I've successfully got the LORD JavaScript port running under my GameSrv installation. I have an older LORD 4.02 instance running, and I'm hoping to find a way to port my character data over. I've looked at the convert flag of lord.js, but it doesn't seem to be for porting character data, moreso for porting your existing LORD game data, and not necessarily for `PLAYERS.DAT`. Does anyone have any tips or tricks for achieving this? Is this something I can hex edit myself? Your help is appreciated. Thanks! ---------------------------------------------------------------------- itbytesbob · 2020-01-15 06:58 Wait.. There's a javascript port of LORD? Where? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- nolageek · 2020-01-15 13:54 Not OP, but it is in the Synchronet CVS: http://cvs.synchro.net/cgi-bin/viewcvs.cgi/xtrn/lord/ There is also a Lord2 in the works! http://cvs.synchro.net/cgi-bin/viewcvs.cgi/xtrn/lord2/ ---------------------------------------------------------------------- nolageek · 2020-01-15 13:58 Weird, I see a function in the code called convert\_player(). Maybe pull up IRC and ask Deuce in the #synchronet channel? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- denzuko · 2020-01-15 16:07 There is an open source version, [https://github.com/rickparrish/LORD2 ](https://github.com/rickparrish/LORD2), maybe one can use the headers from that to discover the file structure? I'd start with [https://github.com/rickparrish/LORD2/blob/master/sourc e/struct.pas](https://github.com/rickparrish/LORD2/blob/master/source/ struct.pas) personally. But maybe a fellow member of the community would have some further knowledge on this? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- itbytesbob · 2020-01-15 17:34 Cool, I wrote an IGM for lord2 when I was much younger. This is neat stuff! ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Morphray · 2020-01-15 17:49 Does this run in a normal browser by itself? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- RealDeuce · 2020-01-15 18:14 That's LORD2, not LORD (and there's a JS version of that too in Synchronet). ---------------------------------------------------------------------- RealDeuce · 2020-01-15 18:15 So you would need to make sure the def matches your LORD version, then write some JS to actually do it. If you have LORD running already though, there's not much need to run the JS version. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- denzuko · 2020-01-15 19:14 so then did the file structures change between versions? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- nolageek · 2020-01-15 21:21 Alas, it runs in a BBS environment, Synchronet BBS specifically. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- RealDeuce · 2020-01-16 06:19 LORD2 is a very different game than LORD. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- denzuko · 2020-01-16 16:24 sure, not debating that. I'm just asking if the data structures are different? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- RealDeuce · 2020-01-17 01:35 Between LORD and LORD2? Yeah. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- belthesar · 2020-01-17 02:54 Good eye! I ended up finding that as well, and found that I needed to undummy some code to get it to perform the conversion. Unfortunately, I think the player data changed slightly between 4.02 and 4.07, so I need to see if there's a way to upgrade my character data to the latest data format. Either that, or try to rewrite the parser to upgrade it myself. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- belthesar · 2020-01-17 02:56 Right now I'm running LORD via DOSBox, so things are a bit hinkey. I'd like to run it native, if I could, and the javascript version works pretty well! ---------------------------------------------------------------------- RealDeuce · 2020-01-17 06:32 Yeah, best thing is to do a game reset. While it's not impossible to convert stuff, the various versions all have slightly different player structures, and the JS game defaults are not the same as any release LORD version. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- belthesar · 2020-01-18 01:29 Ahh, that's unfortunate. Thanks for coming in and replying! I was hoping to bring this existing game in, but we may just switch to it for the next reset. Alas! Much appreciated!
