need help making a BBS System reddit / bbs ---------------------------------------------------------------------- BluSpartan076 · 2019-10-18 21:43 Hello, I am trying to build a bbs system based and themed around the RobCo terminals in Fallout 4. my problems are, trying to make an ascii art logo, how to edit the main lobby menu, and amongst other stuff. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- myself248 · 2019-10-18 21:57 TheDraw! was the ASCII art editor back in the day. What board software are you running? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- BluSpartan076 · 2019-10-18 22:18 syncronet i think. honestly my first time editing and creating bbs stuff ---------------------------------------------------------------------- YserviusPalacost · 2019-10-18 22:40 I used to run Synchro back in the day. Editting everything seemed pretty straightforward back then, but when I set up a BBS again recently, I couldnt believe how cumbersome it all feels. Stick with it. Once you get the OS and BBS installed and minimally working, take an image that you can restore. Then, proceede to do any and every thing that you can to that BBS. You might break something, you mihht fix something, but you will definitely learn something. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- UnaClocker · 2019-10-19 01:31 I feel ya.. I'm setting up Iniquity on a new 8088 machine I recently built (NuXT). I had completely forgotten about fossil drivers being a thing. Amazing how much of that stuff still ran just fine on an XT. And finding 30 year old software is a real pain too. A lot of it is best found in the download section of currently running BBS's. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- joshfolan · 2019-10-19 04:38 Love this idea. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Dobesov · 2019-10-19 11:50 The Draw is still amazing! Never really found anything that seemed to improve on what it does. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- AzuelZorro102 · 2019-10-21 08:31 If you ever get this up and running let me fucking know, i'd love to check it out. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- BluSpartan076 · 2019-10-21 19:25 i think you can now but its HIGHLY unfinished. if you are using syncterm look up RobCo Terminal BBS if you cant find it let me know ---------------------------------------------------------------------- AzuelZorro102 · 2019-10-22 13:52 I can't find it, I'm very new to BBS's and have only connected to a few, how do I find new ones? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- BluSpartan076 · 2019-10-23 17:17 Look up this ip on syncterm: 192.168.0.8 Let me know if it works or not... btw it probably doesnt right now because my pc is in sleep mode rn because im on vacation and wont be back till tuesday ---------------------------------------------------------------------- AzuelZorro102 · 2019-10-23 21:47 How do you...lookup an ip ---------------------------------------------------------------------- BluSpartan076 · 2019-10-23 22:23 Type it into the search box i think ---------------------------------------------------------------------- AzuelZorro102 · 2019-10-23 22:42 This isn't helping. There is no search box in Syncterm, or i'm too stupid to find it. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- BluSpartan076 · 2019-10-24 14:30 I think its called new or add or something like that ---------------------------------------------------------------------- AzuelZorro102 · 2019-10-24 19:31 OH I got it! I'll wait until you come back from vacation though, lol. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- BluSpartan076 · 2019-10-24 23:47 Sweet! Ill be back on tuesday or wednesday ---------------------------------------------------------------------- gozarc · 2019-10-28 10:11 That IP address is local only, it won't work over the internet. You will need to set up port forwarding on your router and get your public IP address. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- BluSpartan076 · 2019-10-28 12:44 I dont know how to port forward ---------------------------------------------------------------------- nolageek · 2019-10-29 14:36 Log into your router in your web browser (Will probably be at 192.168.0.1 in your case) and find the section labeled Port Forwarding. It may be under the advanced settings. You're going to need to forward the port 23 to the bbs machine's local IP address (which seems to be 192.168.0.8 in your case.) I would also forward port 22 in case you're using ssh as well. You'll likely want to forward other ports if you're adding other services and features (fidonet, etc...) You do this because when someone telnets into your IP address, your router needs to know where to send them. This tells your router "incoming telnet connection requests need to be sent to the this particular computer.) You can go to http://ipchicken.com while on your network to get your public facing IP address. This is the IP you'll want to give to people so they can connect. You can also use this to use a proper-ish domain name once you get to that point.
