So I'm very new to the world of BBS, and was wondering if someone
could help me make my first connection with Mystic BBS running on
linux? Thanks!

Once you setup the mystic server you should be able to telnet to it
and sign in.. run it on localhost and it should be as simple as telnet
127.0.0.1

Ok I'm sorry, I should have been more specific. To one that's outside
my own network. Or do I just need telnet for that?

Is there a reason telnet can never resolve these DNS names?

It should be able to. Some BBSes use custom ports, while Telnet
defaults to 23. You may need to make sure you set the custom port
correctly when making your connection.

I did manage to get into one ^w^!

But is there a reason trying to connect to dura-europos with ``telnet
dura-bbs.net:6358`` isnt working?

First open a CLI window at the prompt type:

telnet [havens.synchro.net](https://havens.synchro.net)follow the
prompts and create a new user account. Let me know when you done this
succesfully

Oh, uh...I did manage to connect. I didn't realize that I just needed
telnet, and the domain and port were separated by a space and not a
colon. But I did make an account

Ok good. I validated your account. You have full access to the BBS
now. Look around now. You have a lot to grasp but you're on the right
track. I will help you anyway I can. First try and post a message on
any of the message areas.
