TradeWars artifacts / ephemera reddit / bbs ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Kirkman14 · 2019-07-12 18:02 Anyone have old physical TradeWars ephemera (disks, printed registration codes, etc) that they’d be willing to scan and send me? I would use them in a blog post. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- dperry324 · 2019-07-12 22:34 Sorry, no. I never had such a thing. I still have reg codes tho. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ebookit · 2019-07-13 06:08 Tradewars was shareware downloads. It did not come on a disk or have a label or manual printed. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Kirkman14 · 2019-07-14 14:03 Yes, TradeWars was downloaded. But ... * Registration was handled through the postal mail. * People at the time (like me) would print out electronic manuals or BBS lists and put them in binders. * People like me who didn't have hard drives would save programs like TW to disks, and hand-label them. I'm sure there are BBSing / TradeWars artifacts like that out there. Just trying to see if I can find anyone who has some. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ebookit · 2019-07-15 01:59 OK, just call it historic artifacts instead of piracy. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Kirkman14 · 2019-07-17 16:08 I managed to find [a guy's recent forum post](https://community.spiceworks.com/topic/2216438-bbs-software- nostalga) where he included a photo of his old Trade Wars registration letter. So, yeah, they do exist. (He also posted a few other cool things, including photos of his RIPaint and RIPterm disks) ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Kirkman14 · 2019-07-17 16:12 How is it piracy to print out a a program's documentation, or to hand- label the disk where you downloaded a shareware program? Come on, Norman. By the way, check out the [blog post](https://community.spiceworks.com/topic/2216438-bbs-software- nostalga) I mentioned in my new comment above. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ebookit · 2019-07-18 02:58 Because the Martin's EIS would always try and crack down on people who shared the registration codes. I know they tried to invalidate codes when people shared them too much in newer versions. https://www.eisonline.com/
