Broken linux doors: usurper (sorta), darklands (totally), ambroshia (sorta), clans reddit / bbs ---------------------------------------------------------------------- cloverskull · 2019-05-12 01:44 Hey guys, I'd love to run these games in native linux without having to use DosEMU. Usurper works but likes to add random doublespaced text throughout. I also notice when using ftelnet and playing the game that it does something very odd with ansi escape sequences. Anyone have any ideas? I know it's a combo of ddplus and rmdoor. Would love to get this ported and working perfectly since the dos version is so slow (and outdated). Darklands simply doesn't work for me at all. It won't output anything to the user's screen. DosEMU version doesn't work for me either. I notice it appends a '\' to the path before the doorfile that it's looking for, in other words, it looks for /mystic/temp1/\door.sys, which obviously isn't a file. Frustrating. I compiled the source (after a lot of effort) to fix this problem but now I'm getting segfaults. So back to square one. Ambroshia works but we are stuck on v4.0, when apparently a v4.5 was released for Win32. I also can't use the setup program, it segfaults. Clans doesn't work for me at all. I'm stuck using the DosEMU one. Anyone interested in tackling these at all? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- syi2k17 · 2019-05-12 13:47 For Usurper, you should be able to git clone RMDoor and Usurper to the same location, then compile with free pascal. It runs blazing fast on a raspberry pi, although I had to strip out the text wrapping in helpfile.pas to get rid of the intel assembly. The command line arguments will not be the documented Usurper options, but the RMDoor options instead. Haven't made any progress with the others, I think Clans would probably be the next easiest to recompile since you can compile the open source opendoors, and then would need to lowercase all the Clans source files and come up with linux makefile. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- cloverskull · 2019-05-12 16:50 Thanks! I have usurper running but I notice in some terminal programs (syncterm, ftelnet) that there is an odd double-spacing issue with text on screen. On syncterm it’s bad enough where a lot of valuable information flies off the screen, but in ftelnet it’s not even something you can use because the text display is very screwy. Do you have this issue on the pi? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- syi2k17 · 2019-05-12 20:30 It seems good via ftelnet, various flavors of SSH, and the VTX web client. If you're using linux binaries it might be worth a shot to recompile. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- cloverskull · 2019-05-12 22:14 Yeah, thanks. I did give that a shot and it still is rough :( Can you share your bbs address so I can take a look at how yours performs? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- cloverskull · 2019-05-14 20:37 Hmm, so I recompiled and still have the same display issues, which oddly you don't seem to have. I'd be curious to discuss how you built your environment for compiling this and see if I can duplicate what you did. For what it's worth, VTX was a bit wonky, I'd be curious to test ftelnet if you're game. In any case, getting this built the same as you would be a great starting point. Thanks again!
