HTTPmodem for Linux reddit / bbs ---------------------------------------------------------------------- BetweenTheBorders · 2018-11-05 21:06 I am tilting at windmills here, I guess. It appears that HTTPmodem ([https://www.archaicbinary.net/category/sof tware](https://www.archaicbinary.net/category/software)) will allow me to download BBS files through http. It is only available pre-compiled and supported on Windows. Fortunately, the author graciously released the source as well. With only minor problems, I compiled the source on Raspbian (and would assume most Debian architectures, indeed most Linux flavors, are compatible) and things seem to be going well, except I can't transfer files. Yes, it seems like a major problem, but I think I'm making headway. The executables compile and even run on Linux, although without the DOOR32.sys, they fail out with a file not found. Mystic seems to address it correctly (using the instructions from the Windows version) and I have hammered out the errors it provided until now all I get is "failed to download." I have tested the platform with Syncterm and ArchaicBinary so I believe I know what is supposed to happen (a page with the URL should appear) but I am not getting that with Mystic. I am not a programmer. I can bang code into each other until the stuff I want to happen happens . . . but I am not a programmer. I assume you know the difference. I could use some advice here both in general and in specific. * Are there logs that would tell me more? * Am I missing a known "gotcha" and am on a fool's errand? * Am I missing a step in configuration? * Is this all a DOOR32 issue? I presume the BBS takes care of that based on the Readme I figured this was different enough from the last post to warrant a new topic, and I will continue to work on this as I can, but I am working well outside of my understanding here, and the people here have much more intimate knowledge of these systems than I do, so I'd be grateful if anyone saw something obvious I was missing. Thanks. Edit: It's asking for new .door32.sys every time I run it from the command line. Is this expected behavior? The compilation produced a door32.sys file, but the seemingly random prefix never matches the one requested. Edit 2: Okay, found the logs. Primary error seems to be: System.ArgumentOutOfRangeException: Value must be positive and below the buffer width. I guess I'll be digging into the code. Oh, well, the fact that it compiles and runs, even if it errors out on the display, is a HUGE thing for me. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- archaicbinary · 2018-11-06 09:42 Hey, I'm the author of HTTPmodem. It's not a very complicated process but hopefully I can assist. So I have made a lot of changes since the release you probably downloaded. In that version, with a old version of Mystic I was unable to get the download protocols to generate a DOOR32.SYS file. Since some changes in Mystic I was able to get this all working. The version you have has two binaries, one is run by mystic that generates a 'fake' DOOR32.SYS with the required minimal data to run a 'door'. Then that binary runs the second binary which is the 'door' or protocol itself. I'll reach out and send you my email so we can work closer and try to get this working. FYI, if your running the mystic webserver/ftp you can now generate links using Mystic directly. If you wish to use another HTTP server (like I am) this should still help you. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- -CatX- · 2018-11-14 19:15 How would I setup Mystic to generate http download links? I've found very little info regarding the mystic webserver online...not sure how it works. Oh and like OP I'm using linux too.
