I’ve been looking for an old door game where you were, I believe, a
Computer Store owner. You had the option of buying parts legally, or
out of the trunk of a car in an alleyway. Sometimes you could buy
parts successfully and other times the Police would catch you.

I remember playing it on a Wildcat!-based BBS around 1994 - 1995.
Surely somebody else has played this and remembers the name. I’ve
checked the usual archival sites and Google, but I must not be using
the right terms (or it really wasn’t that popular).

I believe the game is called Virtual SysOp. You run your own BBS and
try to hack other BBSs.

Perhaps this is a good download link: [ftp://archives.thebbs.org/door\
_games/doors\_u-
z/vs3\_0823.zip](ftp://archives.thebbs.org/door_games/doors_u-
z/vs3_0823.zip)

It's probably one of these:

* [Board Master](http://breakintochat.com/wiki/Board_Master)
* [BBS Simulator](http://breakintochat.com/wiki/BBS_Simulator)
* [Shadow Board](http://breakintochat.com/wiki/Shadow_Board)
* [Virtual Sysop](http://breakintochat.com/wiki/Virtual_Sysop)
* [Don't Wake the Sysop](https://www.mobygames.com/game/dont-wake-the-
sysop)

Yep, there was a whole genre of meta-BBS games.
