Tips on connecting to a BBS on mobile? reddit / bbs ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Consideringanal · 2018-08-27 19:58 I want to be able to connect to a BBS via my android. I've see apps like Juicy SSH recommended, but I'm not sure how to use it. I entered the address I usually telnet to on my cpu, but it would not connect. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- thesecretdave · 2018-08-27 21:00 SSH is an encrypted protocol, normally on port 22. If you are connecting to an unencrypted telnet-only server, you will normally need port 23 and will probably have to disable encryption or select telnet-mode in JuicySSH. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Consideringanal · 2018-08-27 21:04 Okay, thanks, I will look into that ---------------------------------------------------------------------- thesecretdave · 2018-08-27 21:09 You know, after reading about it, I don’t think JuiceSSH supports anything except SSH. You may need to find a telnet only app. You might need to try a few out- not all support ANSI graphics very well. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Consideringanal · 2018-08-27 21:13 It does have a telnet option, I just wasn't sure how to use it. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- thesecretdave · 2018-08-27 21:14 Oh ok. Good to know. Good luck getting it working! ---------------------------------------------------------------------- nolageek · 2018-08-27 21:28 Honestly as far as I know there are no good native mobile clients that will work well for calling boards. None that I've tried support ansi well enough to render the menus, etc... The best way is to use something like [fTelnet](http://my.ftelnet.ca/) or the [Telnet BBS Guide](http://telnetbbsguide.com) (which uses an embedded verson of fTelnet that works with many of the BBSs in the list. The ones that don't work use a custom port number.) ---------------------------------------------------------------------- [deleted] · 2018-08-27 21:50 [deleted] ---------------------------------------------------------------------- sinesawtooth · 2018-08-28 02:06 You want to use... a phone to connect to a bbs? 😃 ---------------------------------------------------------------------- user179 · 2018-08-28 02:26 The Syncronet wiki mentions two mobile apps that are supported: http://wiki.synchro.net/resource:term ---------------------------------------------------------------------- [deleted] · 2018-08-28 07:58 [deleted] ---------------------------------------------------------------------- pigeonburger · 2018-08-28 13:28 You need to do something like this. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uQqWHLZjOjA ---------------------------------------------------------------------- sburggsx · 2018-09-02 16:05 While I use it on an iPad, Termius seems to work well. When the charset is set to cp437 the output is pretty close to ANSI. I haven't tried any other charsets. Note: if you really mean mobile as in a phone, I tried it on my iPhoneX and it is horrible. If you hide the keyboard it's great, but you can't really work like that. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- -CatX- · 2018-09-09 18:27 \+1 for this. I often log in to my BBS while on the bus and such, but I gave up long ago on connecting with my phone..In my case I resorted to using a bluetooth keyboard with my RPi3-powered GameBoy, and a ARM- compiled version of syncTERM, which works really well. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- -CatX- · 2018-09-09 19:18 Actually, you might want to check this out if you're familiar with linux and you have an android phone.. [Termux](https://play.google.com /store/apps/details?id=com.termux&hl=en) I haven't tried this method myself but seeing as syncTERM is compilable on ARM, I think it should be theoretically possible to compile and run it using the app above...somehow.
