WWIV BBS's? reddit / bbs ---------------------------------------------------------------------- socmunky · 2018-04-28 06:52 Is anyone using the telnet version of WWIV 5.x to run their bbs with? I am debating on whether to use it or vadv32. Leaning towards VA but...I ran WWIV 4.3 before moving to telegard then mystic so nostalgia is talking to me hard. Quite honestly I would love to go telegard again but have had no luck with it and net2bbs, and no door32 support that I know of... ---------------------------------------------------------------------- iheartbaconsalt · 2018-04-28 06:59 Wow, I'm not running any BBS, but does that have built-in Fido support? That would be awesome. Haven't connected to a WWIV since 1994. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Kodiak01 · 2018-04-28 15:37 5.3 has [FTN support](http://docs.wwivbbs.org/en/latest/network/ftn_nets/). ---------------------------------------------------------------------- [deleted] · 2018-04-28 15:40 [deleted] ---------------------------------------------------------------------- socmunky · 2018-04-28 15:41 Yeah they both do I believe. It appears that WWIV still isn't as configurable as the forum style BBS's (telegard/mystic/etc) but...by shear fact that there may not be any...it would still be unique in the current landscape. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- nolageek · 2018-04-28 16:05 Here's a link to the WWIV boards in the [telnet bbs guide](https://www.telnetbbsguide.com/bbs/software/wwiv/) Edit: for some reason my link was broken. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- socmunky · 2018-04-28 16:40 Awesome, I'll check these out. If nothing else, setting these up has made me realize just how much I've forgotten how to do.... ---------------------------------------------------------------------- nolageek · 2018-04-28 19:01 Yep. It was a learning curve one I started setting mine up. I was a WWIV loyalist back in the day, but run synchronet now. (Also have a Mystic board.) ---------------------------------------------------------------------- iheartbaconsalt · 2018-04-28 19:11 Yeah, I was reading the docs. I can't believe how cool it all looks. It seemed so much harder back then. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- kb0olf · 2018-04-28 21:43 Either my brain is exhausted or I'm just being gmai idiot. This post really triggered the nostalgia beast within. I am trying to setup wwiv 5.3 on Linux Mint. It runs just fine, just can't telnet in to it. Can't find the answer in the documentation. What am I missing? Fou d reference to wwivd.ini which does not exist and can't find any reference on how to create it. Help? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- kb0olf · 2018-04-28 21:57 Never mind, had to go back to the 5.1 documentation to figure it out. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Kodiak01 · 2018-04-29 00:17 Never ran a Fido node, wwivnet was @4352 though way back in the day. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- nolageek · 2018-04-29 14:52 What was the issue, in cause anyone stumbles upon this thread in the future. :) ---------------------------------------------------------------------- kb0olf · 2018-04-29 16:27 Not having the wwivd.ini configured.
