I'm looking for some BBSs to check out and explore while streaming to Twitch. Do you have any suggestions? (Could be your own) reddit / bbs ---------------------------------------------------------------------- HerpieMcDerpie · 2018-04-26 04:29 I'm looking for an assortment of BBSs to check out and explore on [my stream](https://www.twitch.tv/fitesczar). There's a lot of history out there and many different types of boards/software used. If you have some suggestions, please post them here. Bonus if its your own BBS so I can ask you some questions about it and your history with it too. Thanks! Current list: ----------- * capitolshrill.com * bbs.liquiddigital.us * guardian.synchro.net * bbs.retrobattlestations.com * fw2.cnetbbs.net:6800 * rofbbs.cnetbbs.net:2300 * bbs.execpc.com * xibalba.l33t.codes:44510 * basementbbs.ddns.net:9000 * fluph.darktech.org ---------------------------------------------------------------------- nolageek · 2018-04-26 04:49 I run capitolshrill.com, customized synchronet. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- HerpieMcDerpie · 2018-04-26 04:52 An excellent start! I'll add it. Thanks! ---------------------------------------------------------------------- djwyldeone · 2018-04-26 12:26 bbs.liquiddigital.us ---------------------------------------------------------------------- HerpieMcDerpie · 2018-04-26 12:44 Perfect! I'll add it to the list. Are you associated with it? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- dmxrob · 2018-04-26 13:51 The one I frequent a lot is guardian.synchro.net ---------------------------------------------------------------------- FozzTexx · 2018-04-26 14:31 The official BBS of /r/RetroBattlestations: [bbs.retrobattlestations.com](http://bbs.retrobattlestations.com) Recently rewrote the software so that it now supports *more* things than 80x25 ANSI DOS PCs, such as Commodore 64s, TRS-80s, and teletypes. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- UnRandomLife · 2018-04-26 15:10 Some Amiga BBS's still up and running Future World II C-Net Amiga v5.21c K-Guide telnet: fw2.cnetbbs.net:6800 Reign Of Fire C-Net Amiga v5.21a SpitFire telnet: rofbbs.cnetbbs.net:2300 ---------------------------------------------------------------------- HerpieMcDerpie · 2018-04-26 18:53 added! ---------------------------------------------------------------------- HerpieMcDerpie · 2018-04-26 18:54 Oh excellent! I'll be stopping by here! ---------------------------------------------------------------------- HerpieMcDerpie · 2018-04-26 18:54 Thank you very much! ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ILikeBumblebees · 2018-04-26 20:37 Check out the [Telnet BBS Guide](https://www.telnetbbsguide.com/) for a listing of hundreds of active BBSes on the internet. A particularly interesting one is Exec-PC (bbs.execpc.com) -- this was once a major dial-up BBS that went into gradual decline in the '90s, but never went completely offline. Their message and file archives dating to the mid-'80s are still accessible. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- HerpieMcDerpie · 2018-04-26 23:27 Wonderful! I'll be checking all of that out. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- NuSkooler · 2018-04-29 04:42 Xibalba @ xibalba.l33t.codes:44510 is the ENiGMA 1/2 BBS WHQ, feel free. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- JohnPolka · 2018-04-30 23:44 I did not see any Atari on the list. For Atari 8 bit, I suggest the Basement at basementbbs.ddns.net:9000 (I recommend using a good ATASCII/Atari mode terminal like syncterm for best results). For Atari ST, I suggest Star Fleet HQ at bbs.sfhqbbs.org:5983. You can also find a few more Atari BBSs at the following link: http://sfhqbbs.org/ataribbslist.php -JP ---------------------------------------------------------------------- gstandard00 · 2018-05-01 08:47 had a few file not found responses when logging in :-/ ---------------------------------------------------------------------- gstandard00 · 2018-05-01 11:36 I like fluph.darktech.org ---------------------------------------------------------------------- HerpieMcDerpie · 2018-05-01 14:42 Thanks! Added. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- HerpieMcDerpie · 2018-05-01 14:42 I'lll see if Syncterm will work for this one. Thanks! ---------------------------------------------------------------------- HerpieMcDerpie · 2018-05-01 14:42 Perfect. I'll check it out! ---------------------------------------------------------------------- HerpieMcDerpie · 2018-05-01 14:44 Your's was the first response I believe. This Friday (the 4th) I'd like to check it out on my stream starting at 3pm (or shortly after. Gonna get some LORD fights in on ShadoWorks first). ---------------------------------------------------------------------- nolageek · 2018-05-01 15:56 Weird, was it during the new user signup process? I don't see that very often. Everything should be there. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- nolageek · 2018-05-01 15:57 Sweet! Let me know if you have any questions or want me to give you any information about the board. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- HerpieMcDerpie · 2018-05-01 17:30 Please! Anything you'd like me to know/convey! How you got started, why, the origin of the name, history. technical specs. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- nolageek · 2018-05-01 18:14 Sure! :) I put it up in 2014 after seeing the site sixteencolors.com and finding out that the ANSI art and BBS scene was still around. I ran a BBS in New Orleans in the 90s and thought I'd put up a new one. My old board was WWIV (which is still in development) - but after looking at some other software I settled on Synchronet for the new one. I liked the look of it, how flexible it was, and loved that the developers were VERY active (still daily commits to the code and always on IRC.) One of the things I liked about BBSing was the locality of it - it's one of the things that separated it from internet forums, etc.. You knew that just about everyone on a given board was local. I wanted the name of the new board to evoke that 'localness' of the old scene. Since I live in DC, the name is a play on Capitol Hill. I liked it at first, but I've been thinking about a name change for the last year or so. I run both Capitol Shrill and NOLA CARRIER on a [Dell PC I picked up on craigslist](http://www.capitolshrill.com/updates/where-the-magic- happens/) for $40. It doesn't take much. :) BTW: If you'd like a sticker or two PM your address and I'll send you some. :) ---------------------------------------------------------------------- gstandard00 · 2018-05-01 21:41 yep during the new user process, when I tried from my tablet :P Edit: Correction its happening every time I connect. Just tried now, my 2nd connection attempt. Looks like its failing to run a program just before the prompt for every screen. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- [deleted] · 2018-05-01 23:40 [removed] ---------------------------------------------------------------------- JohnPolka · 2018-05-02 10:20 I had the wrong port (9000 not 8000) for the Basement BBS. It's now corrected in the above message. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- HerpieMcDerpie · 2018-05-03 01:53 I updated the listing. Thanks! ---------------------------------------------------------------------- JohnPolka · 2018-05-05 08:55 No problem. I forgot to mention that the Basement is my BBS. Some additional background on the Basement is available at http://basementbbs.ddns.net:7000 ---------------------------------------------------------------------- gstandard00 · 2018-05-09 03:55 Now just need to find a board with a 0-Dayz Warez sections B-) ---------------------------------------------------------------------- sacrilegious · 2018-05-20 18:08 I seem to have broken something. Went into my settings and changed color/ansi support to IBM Extended ASCII. Now I get no menu and a bunch of "File Not Found" when attempting commands from the main menu ---------------------------------------------------------------------- nolageek · 2018-05-20 19:15 I'll take a look. Make sure you have ansi and color enabled. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- sacrilegious · 2018-05-20 20:02 I can't actually find my way back to the settings as I can't see the menu options. What's the key for settings so I can undo what I did? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- nolageek · 2018-05-20 20:04 D
