Weather Reports for BBSs

I recently added local weather to my BBS. It periodically logs into
rainmaker.wunderground.com and downloads the weather for my city. I
may add more cities in the future.

Of course this is no big deal in the age of the Internet, but it's
still
pretty neat getting an old Atari 8 bit BBS to do it. I had to write a
custom module (a.k.a. door on other BBS Systems) to do it.

Some BBSs back in the day also had weather because they resided in a
city that had a local dial-up service available. Not in my case.
However, believe me, I would have been blown away if I had this
feature in the late 80s! :)

If you want to check it out, you can log into my BBS (telnet to
basementbbs.ddns.net:9000) and enter the 'U' command from
the main prompt.

Very cool. It’s always awesome to see old technolgy melded with new
technologies. When I get a chance I’ll log in to check it out.

why would a user want to know the weather in your city?
