I need some help with Mystic BBS on Raspberry Pi. reddit / bbs ---------------------------------------------------------------------- MSFDiamondDog · 2018-01-25 21:30 Hello all, I'm trying to get my Raspberry Pi to host a Mystic based BBS, but I've run into a snag, that I hope somebody here can help me with. I'm currently trying to get my server to connect with my no-ip DNS and so far, I can not for the life of me figure out how to open up port 23 for telnet! I can forward port 22 for SSH no problem, but I have been pulling my hair out trying to get 23 to forward open. I've been going into my router and setting the port forward settings, but to no avail. I did find something interesting though... When I turn off the SSH server in my pi, that I use to log in and control it, port 22 closes. Which tells me that there's something that I need to do on the Pi's end to open port 23, but I'm not sure what. Thanks. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- UnRandomLife · 2018-01-25 21:35 You can't just open ports less than 1024 without being root. Best bet, run your BBS on another port, say 2323, then have your router port forward 23->2323 on the Pi. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- MSFDiamondDog · 2018-01-25 21:39 Thanks. I'll give it a shot. I apologize if I sound a little inexperienced, this is my first project involving networking that I've had in a long time. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- MSFDiamondDog · 2018-01-25 21:48 It works! Thanks a bunch! So I have to have root access to open the ports that I want. I would have never guessed. Thanks a bunch!
