BBS hosing textfiles.org? reddit / bbs ---------------------------------------------------------------------- BennVenn · 2017-08-17 10:05 I've just restored my Visual 1050 computer and set up tcpser. Are there any BBS's that host the collection found at textfiles.org? It would be a good way to spend an afternoon browsing Thanks! ---------------------------------------------------------------------- nolageek · 2017-08-17 17:56 I have a bunch of the categories on Capitol Shrill, not all of them though. telnet://capitolshrill.com ---------------------------------------------------------------------- BennVenn · 2017-08-17 20:31 Thankyou! I'll check it out tonight ---------------------------------------------------------------------- BennVenn · 2017-08-19 05:40 Seems to be some bugs with capitolshrill... Just says File not found, over, and over. can't logout, get to a main menu, do anything really... 80chr mode, no ansi ---------------------------------------------------------------------- nolageek · 2017-08-19 08:41 Looks like the bbs was set to autodetect termimal the, but wasn't detecting ansi support. Should be fixed now , but what terminal program are you using? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- BennVenn · 2017-08-19 08:46 TTY1050 on a Visual 1050 system, CP/M Plus ---------------------------------------------------------------------- BennVenn · 2017-08-20 03:49 Still says: File not found. File not found. Bennvenn@Main Menu: Any way to change whatever preference I need to change at my end? Don't seem to get this problem at other BBS's ---------------------------------------------------------------------- nolageek · 2017-08-20 03:56 It's because your terminal doesn't support ansi? It's trying to find the non-ansi versions of my menus which I haven't made yet. It should work fine if you're using syncterm or some other ansi compatible program. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- BennVenn · 2017-08-20 03:59 Yeah, no ansi support on this machine. Wasn't that a question when signing up though? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- nolageek · 2017-08-20 04:59 It was, that's why it's trying to show the ascii menus which I don't have. :(. I'll make some ASAP ---------------------------------------------------------------------- BennVenn · 2017-08-20 05:02 Ahhhh ok. Don't just for me! I'll start coding an ANSI termail program. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- nolageek · 2017-08-20 05:13 I should be able to convert my menus to ascii pretty easily. I've meen writing a new menu system for synchronet bbs and was too lazy to make.an ascii version of the menus. You give me a reason to do so. :) But, ansi is definitely the preferred method. :) ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ShooterJennings · 2017-08-20 15:19 I just did a massive wget of textfiles but have yet to put it up at bitsunrise.com ---------------------------------------------------------------------- nolageek · 2017-08-22 18:52 I want to find a text file reader that I like for the bbs. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- mro_1337 · 2017-08-28 00:29 if he uses ctrl+a codes synchronet should strip the colors out and high ascii should be changed to regular ascii. just needs a .asc extention on the filename instead of .ans ---------------------------------------------------------------------- mro_1337 · 2017-08-28 00:30 he has measures to make sure you cant grab the entire textfiles archive, last i checked. i even got a ban for doing it years ago. (it's pretty big, btw) ---------------------------------------------------------------------- nolageek · 2017-08-28 15:57 That's exactly what I ended up doing - I was working on new menus and was too lazy and didn't want to spend the time (albeit 3 seconds) to keep generating new asc files after the edits. You should be good now, /u/beenvenn ---------------------------------------------------------------------- nolageek · 2017-08-28 15:58 I just used his 'download in zip format' link on each of the category pages. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- mro_1337 · 2017-09-06 01:59 https://archive.org/download/textfiles-dot-com-2011 ---------------------------------------------------------------------- AutoModerator · 2017-09-06 01:59 This comment was auto-moderated since it was just a link with no text. *I am a bot, and this action was performed automatically. We're up to Drugs but we will continue thru the next week. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- textfiles · 2017-11-15 18:34 Hi, this is he, the one with "measures". I have something in there where if you open six billion connections, I ban your ass, yes. It's called "you're crippling the machine, you toolbox". The Internet Archive item people have been linking to is 99.9% of the textfiles.com content, and I suggest the use of that first.
