What happened to Renegade? reddit / bbs ---------------------------------------------------------------------- jgoerzen · 2017-07-27 16:11 Hi folks, It looks like the renegadebbs.info domain has been lost. Does anybody know what happened there, and where Renegade is hosted now, if indeed it has any new location? Anybody have contact info for people involved with that project that I could ask? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- sardaukar_siet · 2017-07-28 06:41 Looks like the domain is owned by someone else now :( try the Wayback link https://web.archive.org/web/20161010221024/http://renegadebbs.info/ ---------------------------------------------------------------------- jgoerzen · 2017-07-28 14:32 Yeah, I got the wayback site. It's just sad to see it gone as an ongoing concern and will make it a lot less convenient for people to find. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- orexclusivo · 2017-07-28 14:33 Older versions are hosted at http://software.bbsdocumentary.com/IBM/DOS/RENEGADE/ ---------------------------------------------------------------------- mro_1337 · 2017-07-31 01:15 Hello, i redid the server and i was lazy and didnt setup my renegade web yet. i didnt think anybody even USED the site. i also need to setup the mtelnet one. The domain was NOT lost. it's up now. not sure if i will restore the wiki or the forums in the future. bots loved them more than anybody else. renegade's true home is on github where people are toying with it a bit. you can get the source and play with it yourself. please dont submit anything if it's not remarkable. :D ---------------------------------------------------------------------- mro_1337 · 2017-07-31 01:15 i'm surprised someone even noticed it was missing. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- jgoerzen · 2017-07-31 02:44 Hi, glad it's back! For people looking for compiled code, I think the website is a lot more useful than Github. (I'm a Linux hacker; it has been years since I have had the ability to build something for DOS). Incidentally, I built images to run Renegade in Docker: https://github.com/jgoerzen/docker-bbs-renegade ---------------------------------------------------------------------- mro_1337 · 2017-07-31 04:14 Sorry i was taking so long with putting it back up but i've had a very eventful life since last june. i always have many backups and i dont lose domains. regarding the rg site, basically lux (rg expert and domain owner because i own enough)and i had to make a usable full version of the latest version of renegade. i'm not even sure if we got it ALL correct. there's a lot of patching up and strings that had to be edited. my copy works fine. i run thegraveyard.darktech.org also note that renegade has been ported to 32bit by rick parrish but i'm not sure anybody did any testing with it. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Themadtux · 2017-10-05 16:55 I've been trying to find a compiled 32bit version for a while. I've got 1.19 up and running but really would like to see the 32bit version compiled and running. Wish I knew how to code... lol ---------------------------------------------------------------------- mro_1337 · 2017-10-11 21:24 not worth using probably. http://renegadebbs.info/files/rg32installed.zip ---------------------------------------------------------------------- mro_1337 · 2017-10-11 21:39 to those guys that want to play with it on github : it's probably better to design your own bbs software from the ground up. most of these guys playing around with rg on github arent accomplishing much. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Themadtux · 2017-10-12 02:20 thanks man... I'll give it a go and see if it works. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Themadtux · 2017-10-12 02:21 yeah I'd love to see someone bring it back to life with an integrated telnet server etc. obv/2 is being worked on from the ground up. so that's a positive sign. from the ground up it isn't quick but he's working on it. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- mro_1337 · 2017-10-22 18:35 it's really best to start from scratch. especially concerning obv/2 and what palmer did to renegade.
