I was a WWIV mod writer reddit / bbs ---------------------------------------------------------------------- marblebag · 2017-05-09 14:25 The BBS was named The Temples of Syrinx. The sysop was a big Rush fan, I was a computer engineering student looking for coding opportunities. I think I used Dr Zero at the time. I started to mod the message view to mimic the efficient reading layout available on Fido. I then added quoted reply and a notepad feature, like you own BBS built-in Sidekick. At the end of every message display you can hop into the notepad to write your bit. This allowed you to reply to everyone at the same time after you finish reading a long thread. I didn't learn anything programming wise because I only looked at the specific code that I modded. I would later earn my stripes hacking away at the IRC server code. I wish I could access my old code. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- rjmooney · 2017-05-09 15:33 Which area code was the board located in? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- nolageek · 2017-05-09 18:58 Did you ever post the mods to any of the WWIV networked subs? Try checking out some of the current WWIV boards, they may have them up still if they haven't deleted old posts? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- marblebag · 2017-05-10 02:31 The BBS was in Montreal, so area code 514. The WWIV node number would have been 545X. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- marblebag · 2017-05-10 02:32 I really have no memory if I shared it. It was an exclusive feature of the BBS for the first few months, to attract more users.
