Trying to setup a BBS via emulator reddit / bbs ---------------------------------------------------------------------- xianoth · 2017-04-10 22:11 I am looking get an old C=64 BBS running on my PC via VICE emulator, but my issue is figuring out how to get connections to the BBS software, once running, to activate the specific node lines. VICE does have an ethernet setting as welll as a RS232 setting, but I am unsure how they would interact or connect. I have looked online and came up with nothing. If anyone can point me in the right direction, I would be very appreciative. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- JPhebus · 2017-04-11 09:02 You should be able to use tcpser to setup a virtual modem. The Roxbury Software Blog has an article describing how to get this working with VICE: http://roxburysoftware.com/Blog/explaining-tcpser-for-vice/. Good luck! This sounds like a fun project. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- xianoth · 2017-04-11 19:18 Looks good, hopefully I can get it to work in windows.. :) ---------------------------------------------------------------------- JPhebus · 2017-04-12 00:57 You could throw Linux on an older machine to tinker around with, or you may be able to run Linux in a VM on your Windows machine (in VirtualBox, say). Supposedly Windows 10 now has an official Linux subsystem that you can install from Microsoft/Canonical. I don't have any experience with Windows beyond 7 and am on Linux now (Debian Stable). But, Cygwin on Windows used to be a good option for this kind of stuff. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- xianoth · 2017-04-12 01:53 I might do a VM with Ubuntu, gods know I dont need a ton of memory for a VM running a C64 BBS.. :) ---------------------------------------------------------------------- snoozerd · 2017-05-08 18:16 Here are some pointers: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1fethWUYvqXnQOujURBW0T3vQdW2SIDh5Vg E7ECxS-8M/edit# https://github.com/FozzTexx/tcpser
