Social Media's Dial-Up Ancestor: The Bulletin Board System reddit / bbs ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ShooterJennings · 2016-10-26 19:08 I love the ANSI's in here. So 'first generation'. I still get a crazy sense of nostalgia around Christmas. As cheezy as the local BBSes were in my area, I just remember dialing in to see what was new and going on locally. I remember being so pumped on Christmas break that I would be able to work on my BBS and check in with my favorite local BBSes, play some ImagiNation network or DOOM 2 or Tie Fighter. But i'd spend most of my time re-skinning my BBS. Something about the Christmas ANSI's that would go up take me right back to this. Same with the ANSI's in this article. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- KayJustKay · 2016-10-27 09:52 FYI the site this links to is pure design cancer. I thought I was on one of those shitty media aggregate sites at first. Good article but what the hell is with the other article adds taking up ~70% of the page? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ShooterJennings · 2016-10-27 23:35 Looks fine on mine? Android. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- nolageek · 2016-10-28 03:48 I love seeing these types of articles, but man it bugs me when they fail to mention that there are some boards still around that their readers can 'call' via telnet or various web interfaces. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- antdude · 2016-11-12 21:54 It's almost Christmas again! ---------------------------------------------------------------------- samalex01 · 2016-12-05 01:47 Nice article. And agreed much of what I see online now with social media we did with BBSes 20+ years ago. Crazy thing is I'd give-up the Internet as it is now for BBSes as they were any day.
