Gemini BBS software - Just getting started reddit / bbs ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ThomasTheFourth · 2016-08-24 17:56 I've started a repo for a BBS software that I'm tinkering with written in Rails. Its doesn't really do to much at the moment, but if you'd like to follow my progress, here's the repo: https://github.com/ThomasTheFourth/gemini-bbs Since Rails in obviously a web framework, I'm doing some modifications to make the MVC pattern work with a more console based approach, while affording me all the cool tools Rails has to offer. I have no real personal deadline for this, I'm just working on this in my spare time and its purely for fun. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- sardaukar_siet · 2016-08-24 22:30 Cool. Specific feature set you're aiming at? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ThomasTheFourth · 2016-08-25 03:21 My first big goal is to just get the MVC structure of it working so that I can rapidly build features. After that I'll work on the user system, and then I'll build to message boards. I would love to figure out how to get some doors working with it... and long term I'm a huge FidoNet fan, so I'd love to see if that could be integrated. Definitely open for suggestions if you have ideas. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- NuSkooler · 2016-08-26 03:09 Sweet another new BBS software on the block! Love this ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ThomasTheFourth · 2016-08-26 03:29 Its just kind of funny how this is literally the thing I always come back to when I think about 'fun' projects to do. I've literally wanted to write one since I was 12 years old. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- klyxmaster · 2016-09-07 23:14 oooo man! *snap* I thought someone was resurrecting my old gaming BBS (Gemini BBS) I ran in the 90's LOL I'll check it out :-) ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ThomasTheFourth · 2016-09-07 23:31 I think there may have been another Gemini BBS here is Atlanta too. I just liked the name since it likens to communication. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- klyxmaster · 2016-09-14 00:24 I changed mine long ago to NiXSTeaM - I am pretty sure that is unique :P Gaming ofc, and compression techniques (from my blog), yes I was around when Myth was and learned compression from them. I'ts more of a hobby these days since the high-speed beast does not require small files anymore.
