Can hubs comunicate with each other? reddit / bbs ---------------------------------------------------------------------- theofficialdeavmi · 2016-05-28 21:11 Can hubs comunicate with each other with Synchronet? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- theofficialdeavmi · 2016-05-29 08:53 I'm assuming they can. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- mro_1337 · 2016-05-31 04:16 no ---------------------------------------------------------------------- theofficialdeavmi · 2016-05-31 04:53 So if I wanted to be able to have nodes sync data between each other what could I use to get the network topology I want. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- mro_1337 · 2016-05-31 06:17 you are asking the wrong questions. read the synchronet documentation. it's not complicated stuff. if the bbses in the msg network are connected correctly, of course they can communicate ---------------------------------------------------------------------- theofficialdeavmi · 2016-05-31 11:27 So I can create a BBS that us a hub and another BBS that is also a hub and then I could setup them up to communicate and then have say now BBS 3 connect yo the first BBS as a node and then post a message there and it will be synced to the second BBS and if I posted to second BBS then it could be synced to the first BBS. Is there a way to resolve the two hubs constantly syncing messages (or will they only sync new messages)? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- theofficialdeavmi · 2016-05-31 11:49 Oh I see: Let's start with some basic definitions. A QWK netted BBS is either a node, a hub, or both. A node is a BBS that calls another QWK net hub to transfer packets (receiving QWK and sending REP). A hub is a system that receives calls from other nodes and transfers packets (sending QWK and receiving REP). ---------------------------------------------------------------------- mro_1337 · 2016-06-01 03:48 why. and there is msg crc checking. just do it. have one hub only. no more questions, just do it. it's not complicated. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- mro_1337 · 2016-06-01 03:49 why are you telling me? i have 3 msg networks setup. i'm not the one asking questions. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- theofficialdeavmi · 2016-06-01 07:44 Just trying to learn man. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- theofficialdeavmi · 2016-06-01 07:44 Thanks ---------------------------------------------------------------------- mro_1337 · 2016-06-02 02:45 hello faggot! i see you! keep downvoting my posts. it makes me smile to know you make the effort ---------------------------------------------------------------------- denzuko · 2016-06-03 17:02 I think your missing the point of [BBS "networks"] (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bulletin_board_system#Networks). A hub in the sense of bbs is a board that other boards dial into to get the latest message packet and upload their local message packet. A node is board that only downloads message packets for users to read and does not upload new messages. This all happens over an established technology known as [QWK packets](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/QWK_(file_format\)) which is just an archive of text files which contain posts to a board. Before one creates their own network they should study up on the world's oldest, original, and still functional BBS networks. This line of thought is totally missing the point. The syncing isn't like with modern databases doing replication or rsync. Its more like FTP and is the basis for how SMTP and NNTP work. alice bbs calls bob bbs and downloads the latest QWK package from the files/qwk area of the board. alice bbs then uploads her board's qwk package. Bob bbs unpacks alice bbs qwk into the network's message areas Steve bbs calls bob bbs and downloads the latest package but doesn't upload a package Rachael the user calls Steve bbs and search for new posts Rachael now sees new posts from Alice bbs. Alice and Bob are hubs, Steve is a Node. Rachael's replies will not be seen on Bob or Alice unless Steve uploads a packet or Bob calls Steve to download a packet. Latest QWK packets are typically a delta cached snapshot of an message area starting from time0 and time1 where time0 is the time of previous qwk packet was created and time1 is the the time your packer was executed. One should really read the specification to know more. http://textfiles.com/programming/qwk.txt ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Unabart · 2016-06-05 06:37 http://40.media.tumblr.com/1e79a2f883508c09522f678c35cacf98/tumblr_inl ine_noznj8ap9S1qceb8l_500.jpg ---------------------------------------------------------------------- mro_1337 · 2016-06-06 02:07 HAW HAW i win http://i.imgur.com/yUN72ko.png
