One of the great things about the BBS from the old days is that it was
till very local , and you would meet and greet people in your town.
News and events were local and it was pretty cool. Does anyone know of
a resource for locating BBS that are still running in a certain city?

Yes, a BBS called Asirta is here in Tucson.

The option to put up your own to fill the gap is always there.  A
$5/month droplet from Digital Ocean is enough to run, say, Synchronet.

use telnetbbsguide.com and look for location.  that bbs.guide website
isnt well thought out.  that map is difficult to use as well.

I run bbs.guide. It's less than a year old. Telnetbbsguide.com is more
accurate in terms of amount of systems active.

You can search for your city at telnetbbsguide.com and that should
work, if this information was available at the time it was added by
the admin or if the sysop added it when submitting it.

Edit: I see the search templates are kinda borked and it doesn't
search the 'location' custom field. d'oh! I'll look at it tonight.

Edit 2: (I don't run the telnetbbsguide.com site, but I helped with
the redesign...<g>)
