Thanks for the post. We had a local group of BBS users in our area
during the 80's and 90's, and though I was just a kid through much of
this I attended a few of them. Our area was Net 388 on Fidonet, and
even though our town wasn't too big we had a rather large number of
BBSes, 40-60 at various times. I think the last one finally closed
shop around 2002 or 2003.

I miss user groups of any kind to be honest. I mean where else can
you find like minded people who are interested in obscure topics then
at a user group meeting. I tried to form two different Linux User
Groups here in Waco, but alas neither took off though one lasted for
about 4 years. I mean heck we even had a very active Star Trek fan
club in the early 90's that was amazing! I've met some great people
through these types of groups, and in person user groups just can't be
duplicated online.

Don't get me wrong, meet plenty of people with like minded interests
online, more so than i ever did in person through UG's, but there's
just something about sitting around a pizza and talking about whatever
for a few hours that can't be duplicated online.
