Is there an archive of FidoNet messages like Google has for UseNet? reddit / bbs ---------------------------------------------------------------------- samalex01 · 2015-01-07 01:27 I was in awe when I found DejaNews about 10+ years ago, it had all my old Usenet posts from the 90s. Now it's part of Google NEws, but those old posts are still there. I'd LOVE to find something similar for FidoNet, and I have to imagine that somewhere someone has an archive or possibly part of the FidoNet echos from day one. I know disk space was expensive back then, but heck even printouts. I don't know.. any ideas if any such thing exists? I'd LOVE to go back and see my posts from the 80's and early 90's on Fidonet. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- UnaClocker · 2015-01-07 02:56 Yes, http://www.textfiles.com/ ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Plutarch_Rime · 2015-01-07 05:26 Well, Jason's site is awesome but if it contains an archive of Fidonet posts, I can't find them. Any pointers? I found this: http://www.textfiles.com/fidonet-on-the-internet/index.htm ---------------------------------------------------------------------- blakespot · 2015-01-07 15:23 Is it possible to search these (I don't see a way). Looking for my name, etc. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- samalex01 · 2015-01-07 17:22 I've been an avid fan of Textfiles.com since Jason Scott set it up, but however amazing it is I don't believe there is an archive of Fidonet posts there. I'd be curious to konw if there's some bucket for former Sysops to upload their data files to so someone with time could parse them and built an archive of posts, but to my knowledge that hasn't been done. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Kirkman14 · 2015-01-07 20:03 There is http://fidonet.ozzmosis.com, but it is a "modern" archive of the early 2000s to the present day. I have found small caches of 90s-era Fidonet messages on some old BBSes still running today. But AFAIK there is no complete archive anywhere for the 80s-90s. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- samalex01 · 2015-01-07 22:19 Cool, yeah this is nice, I found some of my posts from like 10 years ago. Thanks. This is just such a part of history I hate that it hasn't been maintained better. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Vaneshi · 2015-03-27 05:53 It is actually kind of sad, we've put so much effort in to grabbing hold of old stuff (saving Geocities, scanning magazines and cover disks) but similarly to you, I went looking for a complete Fidonet archive and only found the one that does the 2000's. If Geocities turned out to be only a TB (or two) at most then Fido would be in the GB range... maybe 3 tops. That and I wanted to see FastEcho freak when faced with 3+GB of echo mail to toss :D
