Installing LoRD for Synchronet reddit / bbs ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Toobis · 2014-07-07 09:36 I'm starting a new BBS and I'm trying to install LoRD. I installed the current version (4.07) and got it working successfully, but my reg key was for 3.55, and wouldn't work. I installed 3.55 to a different directory and pointed the door to the 3.55 version of LoRD, but when it launches, it launches through a cmd prompt in Windows, instead of through the BBS. The same thing happens with Lunatix when I try to run that, but LoRD 4.07 is fine, and all the other pre-installed doors are fine. What can I do to get these doors to load in the telnet client instead of locally in windows? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- derfherdez · 2014-07-07 13:52 What version of Windows are you using? x86 or x86_64? Maybe you have no NTVDM support..? Although to be honest Ive found NTVDM really lacking... How is your door setup? [this is mine](http://i.imgur.com/gfvm8Ms.png), and the [Lord 3.55 config](http://i.imgur.com/YAhTlFI.png) for what it's worth.. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Toobis · 2014-07-07 18:04 This is running under Windows 2000, but I've recently installed a new vmware running Win XP, so we'll see if there's any difference at all there. Here are my configs: door setup: http://i.imgur.com/A1lF0iZ.png 3.55 config: http://i.imgur.com/P7GMaQi.png ---------------------------------------------------------------------- screnzo · 2014-07-07 22:57 Hmm...after having looked at your configs have you tried using door32,sys? That node format looks weird too.....shouldn't it be #% ? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- derfherdez · 2014-07-08 00:51 well a little more digging, and here is the '[official setup](http://wiki.synchro.net/howto:door:lord)' >Name LORD >Internal Code LORD >Start-up Directory ../xtrn/lord >Command Line start %# NORIP >Clean-up Command Line >Execution Cost None >Access Requirements >Execution Requirements >Multiple Concurrent Users Yes >Intercept Standard I/O No >Native (32-bit) Executable No >Modify User Data No >Execute on Event No >BBS Drop File Type GAP DOOR.SYS >Place Drop File In Node Directory and > EDITTING NODE SETUP > > (1) Node Number : # > (2) BBS Name : YourBBS > (3) BBS Software : DOORSYS > (4) Path To Drop File: c:\sbbs\node# > (5) Fossil/Internal : Using Regular Fossil Driver > (6) Locked Port Speed: Port Not Locked > (7) Comport : Read From Drop File > (8) Send Open Comports Command? : Yes! > (9) Send Reset Comports Command? : Yes! > (A) Use Special ANSI Settings? : No! > (B) Use direct screen writes? : Yes! > (C) Copy setup from another RT game. I'm using ESXi 5.5. And yeah, it's horrible. So I kept my install on OS/2 running with an old version of Qemu which seems to work slightly better although you may have to launch it 5x until it'll start.... ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Djurkinthebox · 2014-07-08 03:32 [Here's Mine](http://imgur.com/RaLF3TX) Hope it helps! ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Toobis · 2014-07-08 03:35 Thanks for the post. I've tried this, and it still launches fine, but it won't launch within the BBS. I'm wondering if I should try a different BBS system. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- [deleted] · 2014-07-08 05:54 [deleted] ---------------------------------------------------------------------- mro_1337 · 2014-07-08 07:16 **those settings are VERY wrong.** command line in scfg has NORIP; this belongs in the lord.exe command line in lord\start.bat oh, i forgot start.bat has %1 %2 %3 %4 %5 in lord.exe command line. either way, it works **when they say node# in the wiki, it's not literal, you need to type in sbbs\node1 sbbs\node2** ---------------------------------------------------------------------- mro_1337 · 2014-07-08 07:27 door32.sys only works with lord32 bit node code is %# ---------------------------------------------------------------------- mro_1337 · 2014-07-08 07:28 you just have to set it up properly. doesnt matter what bbs software you are using, you have to set it up correctly ---------------------------------------------------------------------- [deleted] · 2014-07-08 07:28 [deleted] ---------------------------------------------------------------------- mro_1337 · 2014-07-08 07:30 **I edited the wiki. correct settings here in case they change it back** http://i.imgur.com/hhsaDqp.png ---------------------------------------------------------------------- derfherdez · 2014-07-08 07:45 I almost wonder if /u/Toobis changed start.bat as needed.. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Toobis · 2014-07-08 07:51 I did update the start.bat to the correct directories, yes. I don't think the game would run at all, otherwise. It's just running outside of the BBS. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- derfherdez · 2014-07-08 08:01 Let me set it up on Windows XP, and try it there... what version of Synchronet? I assuming 3.15? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Toobis · 2014-07-08 08:04 I'm running on 3.13 right now, I haven't done any of the upgrades as some people said they were problematic and you can't downgrade. I can bump everything up to 3.15 try again... Edit: looks like I did one upgrade to 3.14 actually. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- derfherdez · 2014-07-08 08:23 ok, my XP install just finished (XP Pro, sp2), and I'm downloading [Synchronet 3.13a](http://synchro.net/sbbs/sbbs313a.zip) now. And [LORD 3.55](http://lord.lordlegacy.com/downloads/download.php?id=1156) ... give me a few minutes... Also I'm using VMWare Player, but I don't think that really matters... ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Toobis · 2014-07-08 08:27 I just reconfigured LORD using the settings in mro's post, and LORD appears to be working now, but I'm still having one heck of a problem with Lunatix. I bought the registration key from Mike Snyder yesterday, but he said that I'd have to troubleshoot why it's not working myself and he wouldn't help. Are you familiar with installing Lunatix at all? The error I'm getting is SYSOP: Fossil was not initialized correctly. Here's my node setup (DOOR.SYS is in the correct dir): http://i.imgur.com/1RcWSOH.png Here's the report.exe readout from the lunatix dir, if it helps any: http://i.imgur.com/GeXdbWU.png ---------------------------------------------------------------------- derfherdez · 2014-07-08 08:54 never heard of lunatix, but your drop file is in the wrong place! it should be in c:\sbbs\nodeX where X is the node number.... unless it's not multiuser... ? I installed synchronet in that xp machine, and it works just fine... although it just made me remember that the lord code I bought from gameport doesn't work on 3.x only 4.x ... first world problems, I guess. Ill look for lunatix. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- [deleted] · 2014-07-08 08:55 [deleted] ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Toobis · 2014-07-08 09:00 I'm changing the nodes over now. We'll see if that makes a difference. I really appreciate your patience with this EDIT: I turned the FOSSIL off and changed the path for the nodes, and the game is launching, but it's not in the BBS, it's an external window in xp again. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- derfherdez · 2014-07-08 09:20 I found it, installed it (and wow is the setup convoluted) and I did get it to run, but it is SLOWER than hell... Every time you launch a door, it'll come up as a separate window, it's how it works, but you should also see the output in the telnet window [like this](http://i.imgur.com/8inWGGj.png). I don't know why mine isn't picking up ANSI colour, which makes it ask, but also the RIP detection is insanely slow. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Toobis · 2014-07-08 09:22 I'm fine with it opening an additional window, but it's not outputting any of the video through the BBS. The BBS just hangs until I exit the game through the new window. What settings did you use? Can I copy you? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Toobis · 2014-07-08 09:27 This is what's happening for me when I try: http://i.imgur.com/hdJPFZi.png ---------------------------------------------------------------------- derfherdez · 2014-07-08 09:32 here, I'll do better, I'll send you my c:\sbbs directory. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- [deleted] · 2014-07-08 09:37 [deleted] ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Toobis · 2014-07-08 09:38 You're the best. Have some gold! ---------------------------------------------------------------------- derfherdez · 2014-07-08 09:39 when you turned off fossil you disabled the only way the door could send it's output to you. since we aren't using real modems, when synchronet goes to run a door it'll load a device driver into NTVDM that looks like a fossil driver, but will pass all the output nicely in a way sbbs.exe understands it. I sent you a PM with my c:\sbbs, shutdown your sbbs, rename it, and unpack mine and run it, and see how it works... or at least it works on mine... ---------------------------------------------------------------------- derfherdez · 2014-07-08 09:39 thanks! ---------------------------------------------------------------------- derfherdez · 2014-07-08 09:40 hey, its MRO of synchronet fame! ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Toobis · 2014-07-08 09:48 I don't know what you did, but yours works and mine does not. It sure is slow though. I wonder if I can fix that somehow... ---------------------------------------------------------------------- derfherdez · 2014-07-08 09:50 well the positive side is you have a 'known good' copy to fall back on, so try all kinds of things, you can't screw it up any worse than it is, and worst case just unzip it again... but it is dreadfully slow. and consuming 0% cpu. I thought it was the SLICE option, but that too makes it slow with or without. I don't know what it's deal is. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Toobis · 2014-07-08 09:56 One thing I just noticed, is after the main picture loads, I get an error that says 'ERROR RUNNING THE OPENING SEQUENCE'. Do you get that on yours too? I haven't made any changes since you gave it to me. http://i.imgur.com/OCmhKBd.png ---------------------------------------------------------------------- derfherdez · 2014-07-08 10:01 yeah I just saw that once I found a RIP terminal as I was tired of waiting.... I don't know what is up with that error though... I'll digg around some ---------------------------------------------------------------------- derfherdez · 2014-07-08 11:15 it was a bonehead error. I didn't generate the mandatory files and clear the cafeteria... run install.exe (from the c:\sbbs\xtrn\lunatix directory) and do option 'E' ... then it's good to go! worst case, I updated the file that I uploaded... so that'll work too. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Toobis · 2014-07-08 11:36 so that did it, it's up and running now. Thanks a lot but it's still really choppy and it waits for you to press a key before it finishes loading the page, and sometimes pressing that key clears the page completely. I'm not sure where to start in troubleshooting this. Thanks again, though, I really do appreciate your help. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- derfherdez · 2014-07-08 11:55 no problem. if you are going to keep the bbs, you should join it to [dovenet](http://www.synchro.net/docs/dove-net.txt) so you can be part of the microcosm. Of course you'll want to rename it first ... !
