Are any Amiga BBSes still running out there? reddit / bbs ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Kirkman14 · 2014-02-19 17:29 I'm trying to find any Amiga BBSes running games like Hack 'n Slash. Almost every one I've found on forum posts, ads, etc, is defunct now. The most promising one (Misery) never connects. There's another one called Midnight Blue that seems to be up, but it wants a system password and I can't find any reference to that online anywhere. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- recourse9 · 2014-02-19 18:56 Is Hack 'n Slash only an Amiga game? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Kirkman14 · 2014-02-19 22:13 I *think* so, but I'm not 100% sure. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- derfherdez · 2014-02-19 23:33 I was considering setting one up for the heck of it.... WinUAE has somewhat good A2065 emulation. Although I figured it'd lie mostly defunct. Maybe I should just do it. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- braxbrax · 2014-02-20 03:45 I loved that game back in the day. The original version was for the Apple II, then it was ported to the Amiga, and is now available for play on *nix. [Link](http://robert.hurst-ri.us/games/rpgd/) to the author's site with downloads and sources. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Kirkman14 · 2014-02-20 06:24 Interesting. Here's a bit more from the H&S 1.4 docs: > Hack & Slash started life (in door form) as XenoRPG for Xenolink BBS. XenoRPG was ported from Rob Hurst's RPGBBS program, which was a re-write by Rob, of an AppleII BBS called TProBBS. Rob was nice enough to port this game to a Xenolink Door, and has turned the source over to me to maintain. Any changes I make, will be minor at best. I don't want to make major mods to the game, as it will make future merges of new features Rob adds much harder. > When I decided to switch from Xenolink, naturally XenoRPG had to come with me (my users would have revolted). The name didn't fit a "generic" door, so it was renamed to Hack & Slash, after Rob's BBS. Since Rob had made so many changes to RPGBBS, we felt it was time for a re-port. Several hours, a few gurus, and a few Cokes later, Hack & Slash loaded. Rob then graciously handed the code back to me to continue massaging it for door usage. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- [deleted] · 2014-02-20 15:19 [deleted] ---------------------------------------------------------------------- mrnukem · 2014-02-23 19:58 I know this telnet bbs has some Amiga focused areas bbs.amigacam.net ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Kirkman14 · 2014-02-23 21:39 Yeah, there are a number of BBSes that have Amiga-focused message areas or downloads. But I'm looking for a system that actually runs on Amiga BBS software and has Amiga BBS games, whether on genuine hardware or emulated. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- derfherdez · 2014-02-24 08:43 I've made [some progress](http://i.imgur.com/8XN3IRN.png), getting telser working with AmiTCP has been... a major chore. Now on to configuring a BBS package... I'm going to try AmiExpress, although it's documentation seems very strange to me. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- derfherdez · 2014-02-25 16:56 While looking for BBS software, I found one! uzisuicide.servebbs.org (216.255.166.53) Apparently his Amiga 3000t is on the fritz, so it's loaded in WinUAE right now. Enjoy! ---------------------------------------------------------------------- RazorKitten · 2014-03-01 20:49 telnet://bbs.flagnet.org Still up and running on the original A2000/040 CNet Amiga 3. Although, not really all that positive what doors are still running. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Kirkman14 · 2014-03-02 01:04 Seems like none, unless it's a case of needing higher access. Still, cool to see *any* Amiga BBSes. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- RazorKitten · 2014-03-02 23:09 Yea, it's not access, it pretty much only has CircleMud and I don't know for sure if the Mud is running :) I'll see if I can find a copy of Hack & Slash (Sure we have it somewhere) Anything else of interest? As long as I can find the door / pfile I can add it. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- AirlineGlobal5918 · 2023-07-10 17:58 I know this is a very old thread, I've read elsewhere in the last month or so (july 2023) That Test Drive BBS one of the largest Amiga BBS's of the early 90's might be coming back online using original hardware and providing real dialup modems for that true retro feel. The Old SysOP now runs [8bitrepairs.co.uk](https://8bitrepairs.co.uk) and could do with some support.
