Help with setting up BBS on Centos 6.5 Final reddit / bbs ---------------------------------------------------------------------- worldsfastestweiner · 2014-02-10 13:42 Does any one have a simplified method by which I can setup Mystic BBS or any kind of BBS software on a Centos VPS? I have the BBS running and made a user. But it says I should run ./mystic -cfg and at that point I am unsure of what changes I need to make. Is there a guide for Mystic BBS under Linux? A lot of the links I have found are now defunct. (If you have a guide; please let me know so I can start hosting it on my website!) I need to setup a SysOp user and secure the system. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- kb2mob · 2014-02-11 05:25 I run Mystic on Ubuntu, and IIRC, the first account that logs in is made SysOp and from there you can secure it. After running the config and getting it able to accept a telnet connection, you can then go through the Sysop Menu and start creating message bases and the like. Most of the information I have been using to get mine setup is the older docs that were on the Mystic website, the wiki and from the SciNet and FidoNet echos. The echos are still active and you'll see a spurt of posts time and again. Sometimes, it's quiet for months. But if you post, you generally get a reply back in a day or so. If you want the docs that I do have, I'd be happy to throw them up on my dropbox for you. As for the wiki, a quick google search will find that, but it's far from complete or very usable, but it does have some basic info up at least. And any BBS that carries Fido or SciNet, probably has the Mystic echo. I carry it, and if you need access to it, feel free connect to my board. rfgeeks.no-ip.org ---------------------------------------------------------------------- worldsfastestweiner · 2014-02-11 14:22 Would you mind dropping those docs on dropbox and sharing with me? I'll pm you my email. Thanks. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- worldsfastestweiner · 2014-02-12 19:46 Update - I have setup Mystic BBS. It works through SSH now. I created a user called 'bbs' on my VPS. That user automatically spawns a copy of mystic and has no other permissions but to deal with mystic. So you log in through SSH, connect, and then connect using your username and password for mystic. So I essentially created a SSH tunnel for all my telnet traffic over a single user. I was able to make my user into SySop. I now have my permissions set to 255 and have unlimited access to the system. I also removed my users time out and removed my limit on time connected. So I can be connected 24/7 over SSH into my BBS. Things that don't work - Uploading/Downloading files. How do I do this? Is it possible to upload or download files through the SSH connection? Why does it try to use something called Z-modem? Things I want to setup - Door Games RSS Feeds Fidonet File Upload/Download Some form of Dogecoin tipbot that allows users to tip each other dogecoin over fidenet.
