I have a comcast business class connection and hardware to run a BBS
but is there a demand for it?

The problem, as I see it, is somehow managing the huge message base.

Reddit at its core is a message board. If you could find a way to
import all of Reddit's topics though its API (and I'm not even sure
Reddit has an API that allows it) the message base would soon become
huge. Like, after the first day. Even if you do a purge a week the
board would be out of hand IMO. This is all speculation of course, so
take with a grain of salt.

Now we could do a separate board and that's pretty much all we could
do. After I put out some feelers a few weeks after I took over this
sub there didn't seem to be that much interest in a BBS. But if you
start a RedditBBS I'll promote it in /r/bbs and think up a few
promotions for it.

Well, I was figuring it would be more for door games than anything
else. Get a good game of LORD, Usurper, BRE/SRE going.

I actually just re-opened my BBS.  I haven't fully configured
everything yet or added any custom ANSI yet, however it is
operational.

Mail works, and so does The Pit and Barren Realms Elite(Registered).

Telnet: linenoisebbs.istmein.de - Port 4242

I'll be adding Yankee Trader soon, and I'm trying to arrange a few
other old favorites.

I created a Virtual Machine in Windows 8.  It has an Windows XP SP3
install with an emulated switch that allows my NIC to be shared
between my Windows 8 install, and the Windows XP install within the
virtual machine.

It's all done through Hyper-V

I'm pretty sure you can somehow, but the trick is the majority of the
BBS doors and software is designed for a DOS environment.

I'm not sure how the site looks in Ubuntu, but for windows users you
need to pickup a decent Telnet program that has good support for ANSI-
BBS.  I'd suggest ZOC Terminal.  Just configure it to use ANSI-BBS,
Set the background to black (Text to grey / highlighted text to white)
and increase the font size and everything looks fantastic.

Next up, I'm working on a Java/Flash box on the website front end
that'll permit telnet sessions without a client.

You can access the website using your BBS credentials at
http://linenoisebbs.istmein.de .  It'll allow you to use mail and a
few other services through there.
