What do you use to dial up telnet BBSes? reddit / bbs ---------------------------------------------------------------------- tribute · 2011-07-07 00:15 I've used mtelnet for about 7 years; anyone have any success with any others? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Inane_BS_To_Follow · 2011-07-07 01:25 QLink, then LCOM, then MegaMUD, then mTelnet. mTelnet and MegaMUD are the only ones that support telnet. mTelnet is, by far, the best client I've ever found on a PC. Does ASCII right. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- tribute · 2011-07-07 02:08 Yeah, when I started out using telnet the default on Windows was near horrible for ascii. Wow, I just thought about it and I stopped running my board in 96'. I didn't run into a BBS again until 01' and didn't settle into a telnet dialer until 02-03'. Damn I'm getting old. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Inane_BS_To_Follow · 2011-07-07 02:17 What platform were you on? We're all Worldgroup here, did the postgres mod, just about got old MBBS TWARS2002. AFAIK, there is only two copies of the source in existance ---------------------------------------------------------------------- tribute · 2011-07-07 02:24 Frontdoor and Remote Access Pro 2.51, 2 node. I ran a shadow EleBBS for a year a while back (same config as RA, so all I had to do was unarj all my txtfiles). I could never get the hang of echomail via telnet though. I'll give it another shot in a few months. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Inane_BS_To_Follow · 2011-07-07 02:33 Took me MONTHS to make Majornet/Worldnet work. Theres a whole community of people devoted to digging up all the old MBBSware source and getting patches done that are, at this point, 20 years overdue. Our local board back in the day was a monster 64 line system. Was like walking in to skynet. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- tribute · 2011-07-07 02:41 RA must have been simpler to reverse engineer because as soon as the guy who bought RA stalled the EleBBS guy had his version out the door. The only reason I would run a Major board now would be the MUD community. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- cambot · 2011-07-07 03:17 I always use putty for serial and telnet on windows. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Inane_BS_To_Follow · 2011-07-07 03:18 Seems to be the way most Sysops are. Somehow, the only BBSs I connected to were Major and one Wildcat system. Didn't even know other software existed until ~2003! And now I'm just a cranky old bastard that doesn't want to learn board software. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ansichild · 2011-07-13 21:40 Is there a Mac terminal emulator for BBSs that does proper ANSI? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- tribute · 2011-07-13 22:55 When I was testing hackintosh (2006ish, for about a year) [syncterm](http://syncterm.bbsdev.net/) worked for me. Tell me how that works out for you. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- TheHT · 2011-11-04 03:05 Try mTelnet for windows, awesome ANSI emulation ---------------------------------------------------------------------- moises_ph · 2011-12-17 13:16 Old thread, but I recently just got into BBSing again. I use SyncTerm for OSX and Windows, displays ANSI properly too
