right-alt needs to be preceded by ESC in freeBSD, how can I change
this?

While navigating through commands in freeBSD, I noticed that
`right_alt-B` does not move back one word in my current command (emacs
mode).  After some research I found that typing `Esc-right_alt-B`
works but I want to simply be able to forego pressing `Esc` before
each right alt.  How can I either re-bind my right alt key to my left
alt key or just otherwise fix this?

Your right alt key is not doing anything. The esc-b sequence is
equivalent to alt-b.

I don’t know how to alter the key map for the X server. I don’t use
FreeBSD as my desktop.
