Already added the include line but then it shows me another error. reddit / BSD ---------------------------------------------------------------------- [deleted] · 2021-08-16 03:15 did u get it from porte or did u clone from suckless.org? it always works for me when i uncomment the line in config.mk ---------------------------------------------------------------------- alt_account_615261 · 2021-08-16 03:18 Cloned it from suckless.org ---------------------------------------------------------------------- alt_account_615261 · 2021-08-16 03:20 Which line btw? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- [deleted] · 2021-08-16 03:20 did u change anything else other than uncomment the line in config.mk? and u didnt uncomment the line that says to “uncomment this,” right? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- [deleted] · 2021-08-16 03:21 edit config.mk, then look for a line that says something along the lines of “OpenBSD (uncomment this) and remove the # on the line under it ---------------------------------------------------------------------- alt_account_615261 · 2021-08-16 03:31 Of course i didnt ---------------------------------------------------------------------- alt_account_615261 · 2021-08-16 03:32 Thank you, it worked :) ---------------------------------------------------------------------- alt_account_615261 · 2021-08-16 03:32 Now i have to figure out how to startx ---------------------------------------------------------------------- [deleted] · 2021-08-16 03:34 make a new file in your home directory called “.xinitrc” then put in it “exec dwm” type startx and you’re good to go ---------------------------------------------------------------------- [deleted] · 2021-08-16 03:34 Np :) have fun ---------------------------------------------------------------------- alt_account_615261 · 2021-08-16 03:35 I did that, but it says that no screens found. Im on a vm, but dont think that is the problem thought ---------------------------------------------------------------------- [deleted] · 2021-08-16 03:41 thet usually happens to me when i dont have the correct video drivers. it happens to me in linux too. Maybe try to find out if there’s virtualbox drivers you need to install. you should try running “fw_update” then “fw_update -a” and reboot. hopefully it’ll work after that ---------------------------------------------------------------------- alt_account_615261 · 2021-08-16 03:47 Thank you, I will. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- [deleted] · 2021-08-16 03:54 good luck. vms can be kinda weird sometimes though. tell me if it works ---------------------------------------------------------------------- alt_account_615261 · 2021-08-16 11:45 Ok, I downloaded all the stuff it needs but it still wont start. I think I should change the gpu settings in virtual box and see how it goes. Going to try it and then I'll tell you :) ---------------------------------------------------------------------- StableStoat · 2021-08-16 15:21 `startx` doesn't work on OpenBSD unless you're the root user, for security reasons https://www.reddit.com/r/openbsd/comments/f40mq0/why_startx_does_not_w ork_for_nonroot_users/ use `xenodm` instead https://man.openbsd.org/xenodm ---------------------------------------------------------------------- alt_account_615261 · 2021-08-16 15:25 Thanks ---------------------------------------------------------------------- [deleted] · 2021-08-16 15:52 It always works for me. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- StableStoat · 2021-08-16 15:53 see the first link posted certain modern hardware works with startx, but since OP is using a virtual machine, that's not the case ---------------------------------------------------------------------- MrRichBOB · 2021-08-17 00:10 The only line you have to change for OpenBSD is the one for Xft. As a matter of fact, the only reason dwm actually compiles on Linux rather than only on OpenBSD is because `/usr/X11R6` is sym linked to `/usr/share/X11 on Linux`. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- alt_account_615261 · 2021-08-17 00:14 Yes
