Just made a Discord server to discuss UNIX/BSD and C reddit / BSD ---------------------------------------------------------------------- [deleted] · 2020-05-14 04:55 [deleted] ---------------------------------------------------------------------- nahnah2017 · 2020-05-14 09:43 \> I know asking for help is often unpopular in Reddit Since when? \> Everyone's welcome! Even Windows C++ developers. On a UNIX/BSD and C Discord? Makes no sense at all. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- AnimatedQuestions · 2020-05-14 10:10 Why would you want to be unwelcome towards anybody. They might be there to learn different paradigms or any of the other thousand personal reasons. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- nahnah2017 · 2020-05-14 10:40 Why would Windows and C++ developers come to a UNIX/BSD and C Q&A site? Sure, they may come to learn but it's strange to openly invite such people to a topic they show no interest in. It would be like inviting circus clowns. What's the point? There's a difference between allowing outsiders and inviting outsiders. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- xmjEE · 2020-05-14 11:01 Does it let me connect via IRC? :p ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Shred_Alert · 2020-05-14 11:29 I established a Unix Discord server just about a year ago. You might see the following: Massive intake of members out of which maybe 5 are active after the initial month. I just invite people now on a have-we-had-a-productive-exchange basis. Good luck with your server. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- [deleted] · 2020-05-14 12:04 Discord is proprietary spyware. No thanks ---------------------------------------------------------------------- flexibeast · 2020-05-14 13:09 In response to a post on r/C_Programming asking "Why are some C developers so nasty when others ask for help?", /u/FUZxxl wrote [a comprehensive response](https://www.reddit.com/r/C_Programming/comment s/4gnkwy/why_are_some_c_developers_so_nasty_when_others/d2j3r8g/). ---------------------------------------------------------------------- FUZxxl · 2020-05-14 13:16 Oh hey, I totally forgot about having written that one. Unfortunately, it hasn't gotten any better. It's the eternal September all over again. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Smallzfry · 2020-05-14 15:06 You're the same guy who posted yesterday [here](https://www.reddit.com /r/unix/comments/gikcqs/a_unix_c_discord/). The message is still the same, dude: Discord isn't popular among the *nix communities in general. Also, people ask for help very often on Reddit. It's why /r/linuxquestions and /r/linux4noobs exist, and all of the BSD subs are great at answering questions. You're basing the need for a Discord server on a false premise. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- [deleted] · 2020-05-14 15:54 [deleted] ---------------------------------------------------------------------- [deleted] · 2020-05-14 16:27 Still proprietary. Still spyware. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- [deleted] · 2020-05-14 16:32 [deleted] ---------------------------------------------------------------------- [deleted] · 2020-05-14 17:02 [deleted] ---------------------------------------------------------------------- goldfluss · 2020-05-17 11:37 You wrote a good answer !
