Not here to start a political debate, but to have discussion. I'm anti-copyright, anti-IP. I personally like the MIT/BSD licenses more than copyleft licenses like GPL because of my anti-copyright ideals. Thoughts about this? reddit / BSD ---------------------------------------------------------------------- [deleted] · 2017-09-26 18:54 [deleted] ---------------------------------------------------------------------- X7spyWqcRY · 2017-09-26 19:13 Many people who support open-source efforts are against copyright. I see copyleft as a strategy for combating copyright, rather than as a moral end in itself. It uses copyright's mechanisms against itself. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- [deleted] · 2017-09-26 19:25 [deleted] ---------------------------------------------------------------------- X7spyWqcRY · 2017-09-26 19:35 Sure. FYI this subreddit is more about the BSDs' technology than licensing, which is why this topic is at 0. This kind of discussion might be better suited for r/freesoftware. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- sneakpeekbot · 2017-09-26 19:35 **Here's a sneak peek of /r/freesoftware using the [top posts](https://np.reddit.com/r/freesoftware/top/?sort=top&t=year) of the year!** \#1: [PSA: Unofficial, GPL-violating, ad-filled version of F-Droid on Google Play. I would rather read BSD code than Linux code, and both are open-source. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- [deleted] · 2017-09-26 21:11 [deleted] ---------------------------------------------------------------------- GodlessAristocrat · 2017-09-27 00:06 There's more to it that that, however. Typically, the BSD's are systems engineered from the ground up to work together; the user utilities work with the kernel, etc. They aren't "BSD/Mach" or some such. They are engineered ecosystems with a roadmap. Linux is Tech Salad. It's a lot of unique and discrete pieces of stuff that don't mix together easily, but taken as a whole it's quite nice on the surface. Just don't look too closely at the dressing that holds them together because it may contain chopped dead fish.
