Good morning faggots reddit / BSD ---------------------------------------------------------------------- rhabarba · 2015-09-23 14:57 Ladies and gentlemen, I proudly present: A typical Linux user. Please don't feed. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Szteto_Anztian · 2015-09-23 15:36 The guy doesn't even have the cojones to post on his main account... ---------------------------------------------------------------------- rhqq · 2015-09-23 16:16 Well. Can someone ELI5 what are they trying to laugh at? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- p4p3r · 2015-09-23 17:11 This comment makes you sound just as ignorant as OP. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- m1ss1ontomars2k4 · 2015-09-23 17:22 I dunno about "laugh" necessarily, but it's really just the same old argument about whether the GPL or BSD license is more free. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- cacatl · 2015-09-23 18:34 More like a typical /g/ user. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- rhqq · 2015-09-23 19:22 Could you elaborate on this or reference some reading that is not 128 pages long? I don't want to know neccessary the roots of the root, but general idea of the argument. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- m1ss1ontomars2k4 · 2015-09-23 20:34 The picture is, to some extent, accurate. The checkmarks move around based on your point of view. The BSD license is usually something along the lines of "do whatever you want with the code, so long as you give the original copyright owner credit". There are many variations on this license. The GPL license is usually something interpreted as "if you modify this code, you have to share your modifications". So one license says you don't have to share your modifications. The other does. Which is more free? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Szteto_Anztian · 2015-09-23 20:54 This is a good summation of it. The general idea being that GPL removes the freedom of the developers choice to release their source code. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- rhqq · 2015-09-23 22:17 Thanks, that makes more sense now. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- NerdVsGeek · 2015-09-23 22:30 I disagree - most typical Linux users are license agnostic. Most use it because it's free (beer), it supports their old device, and they generally do not get virus or malware infections. These are people like my sister and many of my friends happily running Ubuntu. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- rhabarba · 2015-09-23 22:30 > they generally do not get virus or malware infections At least they don't notice it. ;o) ---------------------------------------------------------------------- rhabarba · 2015-09-23 22:32 [Here's](http://noordering.wordpress.com/2009/01/20/why-the-gpl-is- not-free/) my favorite link on the topic. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- NerdVsGeek · 2015-09-23 22:42 Quite possible, although as someone who does work in the security space I could argue it would be possible to develop "malware" that could affect any platform, regardless of the technical ability of the user/owner. With as much computing is done in the cloud, like Reddit or your banking, malware doesn't have to live on our computers. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- rhabarba · 2015-09-23 22:45 ^ I agree. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- lhxtx · 2015-09-24 00:49 Classy. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- [deleted] · 2015-09-24 09:14 [deleted]
