Mostly the supplied-with-the-device keyboards don't support meta or super as modifiers (usually mapped to alt and windows keys). As for macOS compatibility, the full GUI emas also runs there (as well as on Linux and Windows); there are several additionally customized distributions on the mac that make use of mac- only interfaces.I just looked at F-Droid and the only emacs listed there IS the full gui emacs, so I am a bit confused. I have a (probably older) version of that on one of my tablets, and when I start it up (from the circular blue icon with the stylized E on the desktop), I get the splash screen with the blue and red GNU and Emacs logo. The main advantage of the GUI emacs is that it can deal with images (e.g. that splash screen icon). All the editing and elisp processing can be done in both GUI and character mode (and both modes can run on all the platforms).
