Switch off project wizard lazarus / 9-Editor ---------------------------------------------------------------------- jack616 · 2015-03-10 12:19 Is there a switch to turn off that project wizard pop up. I can't find one and it's driving me crazy. If not where is the easiest place to patch it out so I can recompile without it? thanks ---------------------------------------------------------------------- howardpc · 2015-03-10 13:23 What project wizard is popping up for you? What does it say? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Martin_fr · 2015-03-10 13:55 If you mean you just want to close the project, and the have the IDE running without any project open.... That is not possible. To patch: all over the IDE. there is lots of code everywhere that depends on the current project. Simply add a tab do the source-editor for another file/text to be edited => needs the project. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- rvk · 2015-03-10 14:53 Quote from: howardpc on March 10, 2015, 02:23:26 pmWhat project wizard is popping up for you? What does it say? You've never closed a project (Project/Close Project, always gives the "Project Wizard" which you can't close without opening a new project or quiting Lazarus) Quote from: jack616 on March 10, 2015, 01:19:34 pmIf not where is the easiest place to patch it out so I can recompile without it? You could try finding the code for the wizard-dialog and hiding/closing that dialog without quiting Lazarus. Although, like Martin said, you'll be left with an unstable and useless IDE. Starting point could be ShowProjectWizardDlg in .\lazarus\ide\projectwizarddlg.pas and TMainIDE.DoNoProjectWizard in .\lazarus\ide\main.pp. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- rvk · 2015-03-10 15:16 Closest I come, and still maintaining some stability in Lazarus, is adding the following 2 lines at the top of TMainIDE.DoNoProjectWizard in .\lazarus\ide\main.pp. It will create a empty project when choosing to close the current one. Code: [Select]  if (Project1 = nil) then DoNewProject(ProjectDescriptorEmptyProject);   exit; Not sure if anybody else sees anything wrong with this hack but maybe it's enough for you. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Leledumbo · 2015-03-10 15:19 http://wiki.freepascal.org/Lazarus_For_Delphi_Users#No_.22empty.22_IDE _with_Lazarus ---------------------------------------------------------------------- jack616 · 2015-03-13 12:25 ok - so how about making it non-modal? That would make it far less annoying without removing the (somewhat oddly designed) features . That would still require some work. The problem is, that, when no project is open, the IDE must make sure you can not use the menus, or key-shortcuns. Because if you could, most of them would simply crash the IDE. So if the form was none modal, we need code to disable all menus, and all key handlers, and all speedbuttons,,,,, Or the entire IDE needs rewrite, so those functions will work.... that is a lot of rewrite.... ------------------- What do you try to archive? Why do you want the IDE in a "no project open" state? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- rvk · 2015-03-13 12:55 Quote from: jack616 on March 13, 2015, 01:25:40 pmok - so how about making it non-modal? It will result in having no editor screen open and behave like you want. It only has a "new" empty project so the IDE stays stable. If you need to do something in the IDE you would always need to open a project but you can do that via the menus. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- jack616 · 2015-03-13 14:11 Martin - what I am trying to achieve is the very thing you say it is designed to stop. I want to be able to use the IDE tools without having to keep on messing with that form every time I close a project. Closing a project should not prevent the rest of the system working. rvk - yes your solution is probably going to be what I need - for now -  thanks for taking the trouble - it just isnt very elegant to do it that way long term. Ideally that form should not be interfering. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- JuhaManninen · 2015-03-13 14:20 Jack616, you are using the IDE in a stupid way. You never need to explicitly close a project! The active project gets closed automatically when you open another project or when you close the IDE. This is a complete non-issue, although I know it confuses new users for one or two days initially when learning Lazarus. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Martin_fr · 2015-03-13 14:57 Quote from: jack616 on March 13, 2015, 03:11:34 pmMartin - what I am trying to achieve is the very thing you say it is designed to stop. That means there will be no designer (no TForm1 or similar). And you can close the Object inspector too. And yes the question to use the IDE as just an editor has been asked before. It has not been asked very often, but it is a valid question. The issue is 10 years ago some one made the decision not to add the extra work that thi would have taken (project less is a feature, and it takes work to implement) Ever since a lot of code was added, and lots of it on the assumption that there is a project. So today it will be a huge task to implement this feature. All it needs is someone to do the work. *IF* real quality code is provided, I am sure such a feature will be accepted. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Martin_fr · 2015-03-13 15:04 Further you can go to the menu Tools > Options and set Page "Files": "Open last project at start" so you do not get the default empty GUI app. Page "Form Editor": unselect  "open designer on open unit" so if your project has a form,  it will not be opening th eform designer until you press F12.
