Hide comments from Object Inspector lazarus / 9-Editor ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Never · 2014-10-09 11:16 Acording to this doc [http://wiki.freepascal.org/Lazarus_IDE_Tools#Com ments_shown_in_the_hint] QuoteComments starting with $ and % are ignored.but this is not true only comments starting with a) Quote(*$  this is a hidden comment ) and  b) Quote{$ are ignored. The above results are for a) this error  QuoteWarning: Illegal compiler switch "$"  and for b) the comments are red!! Is there another way to hide comments from Object inspector? if there is no  other way is it safe to useQuote(*$  this is a hidden comment ) ?? Edit**:Fixed Post thanks @Mike.Cornflake ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Mike.Cornflake · 2014-10-09 15:36 You're good at finding the obscure stuff that I've never noticed before :-)   I'm away from Lazarus at the moment, but I'll look at this tonight... The $ bit is not about hiding about comments from the Object Inspector as such, so the wiki is a little misleading.  The exclusion code would have been put in because {$ is special.  It's for compiler directives, not for comments, so that error message you're getting is perfectly valid. Code: [Select]{$IFDEF WIN32}   CallWIN32Code; {$ELSE}   MakeADifferentCall; {$ENDIF} I don't know about the % stuff, and it's that that I'll look at tonight... By the way, your post was really hard to read.   Can you please investigate and start using the [ code ] tags?  The example I posted above is written as [ code ]{$IFDEF WIN32}   CallWIN32Code; {$ELSE}   MakeADifferentCall; {$ENDIF}[ /code ] Just with the spaces inside the [ ] removed... ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Mike.Cornflake · 2014-10-09 18:32 I can confirm your results about code hint visibility on Lazarus 1.3 I've already covered the {$DEFINE} scenario, which is a special case (and this is why it's shown in red - to emphasize that it's special).  The only comment I could get to hide was (*$ This is successfully hidden *), all others were shown I suspect the code is working as expected, and that the wiki just needs to be updated.  I'll post a query on the mailing lists and get back to you... Code: [Select]procedure TForm1.Button1Click(Sender: TObject); Var   sHint1: String; { This hint is shown }   sHint2: String; {% This hint is shown }   sHint3: String; (*$ This is successfully hidden *)   sHint4: String; (*% This hint is shown *)   sHint5: String; //$ This hint is shown   sHint6: String; //% This hint is shown   { This hint is shown }   sHint7: String;   {% This hint is shown }   sHint8: String;   (*$ This is successfully hidden *)   sHint9: String;   (*% This hint is shown *)   sHint10: String;   //$ This hint is shown   sHint11: String;   //% This hint is shown   sHint12: String; begin   sHint1 := sHint2 + sHint3 + sHint4 + sHint5 + sHint6;   sHint7 := sHint8 + sHint9 + sHint10 + sHint11 + sHint12; end; ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Mike.Cornflake · 2014-10-10 06:59 Again, nicely found @Never. I reported this on the mailing list, and most of the forms were immediately fixed in Trunk.  The last remaining form (*% This hint is shown *) is also apparently fixed, but I'm away from Lazarus until this evening so cannot confirm. If you want to play with Trunk for yourself to confirm, well I recommend fpcup :-)   http://wiki.lazarus.freepascal.org/fpcup   https://bitbucket.org/reiniero/fpcup If you have any issues with fpc, search this forum or read the wiki first.  Lots of questions have already been answered.  But generally, it just works out of the box.
