Sugestions lazarus / 9-Editor ---------------------------------------------------------------------- BenLaz · 2014-06-20 21:15 Hello, I'm using Lazarus/fpc now for few monthes (i tried it a while ago and find it very good, but i've only find time to use it on real project recently). I really do think it's a great project and i whish to thank contributors very much for their work. Like many people, i think, i use Lazarus/fpc for personal projects and i use embarcadero Delphi XE(6 now) professionaly. I really prefer Lazarus to Delphi, because Lazarus is much more "reactive" and the team takes account of user's remarks ... The point of this post is to make suggestions / feedbacks of my personal experience with lazarus  : - First, when i code i edit a lot of units at same time, and the editing pagecontrol is not realy user friendly i think. A sugestion is to add a "bottom arrow", like in Delphi, which allow you to select the unit you want to see without using "right and left arrows" which scrolls (top right of the source editor). - Allowing the possibility to sort sources in the "project inspector" sorted by name without mixing directories and files (something like first the directories sorted by name and then the files). - Adding in TPageControl a property "Inside border width" because the width is by default 4 px and when putings frames with page control in a pageControl sheet, it looks bad. I know that it's "easily" possible to make a page control with that kind of stuff but it implies to make a component and to install it. I think that beaviour can be "standard", and i'd like to have other users point of view on that point. That's all. Once again, Laz/fpc is a great procduct, i hope it will, one day, be more used than embarcadero's Delphi. There is certainly room for improvement, have you tried to right click a tab (any tab) ? The context menu lists all units, sorted by package and project. So in your case your units are under project. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- BenLaz · 2014-06-20 21:47 Thanks for the tip !!! it'll change my life ---------------------------------------------------------------------- BenLaz · 2014-06-21 11:41 Well in fact it wont... After some hours of coding, i think it's not so intuitiv and fast... But thank you anyway for your reply ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Martin_fr · 2014-06-21 14:30 Well you can add it as a feature request, but it will probably not get much priority... On linux/gtk, you can try to change tab-position to left (Menu: Tools > Options > Editor > Misc) On Windows, it is possible, but imho not a good idea. You can also try to add it yourself. Or (which may be easier) try to extend the editor-toolbar-package. It does not have it, but it should be possible to add it there. Another thing is, if you use a lot of code navigation, then you may need it less. For this you may re-assign your keystrokes. E.g. I have * alt-cursor-up to go to declaration (same as ctrl-mouse click) * alt-cursor left to go back (by default ctrl-h) Mouse buttons 4 and 5 also navigate on a 5 button mouse, and you can reassign this, if you do not have 5 buttons. You can drag and drop tabs, so if you often switch between 2 of them, then you can have them next to each other. You can also assign also keystrokes, to switch tabs, or re-order them. I know, none of this is what you want, but maybe it still helps ---------------------------------------------------------------------- hinst · 2014-06-21 17:40 Get latest Lazarus 1.2.5 There is window "Source Editor Window Manager" One could think that it displays source editor windows; but in fact it displays tabs as well. You get a list of tabs. Doubleclick tab to activate it In my Lazarus installation Ctrl+Shift+W shortcut is assigned to it. I am not sure if I set it or it was preset by default. You can assign shortcuts in Key Mappings panel of Options dialog ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Martin_fr · 2014-06-26 12:49 One more note. You can avoid having to move the mouse up to the tab bar. Using ctrl- right-mouse anywhere on the text area of the editor, will bring up the same popup menu. Yes it will contain a lot of entries before the units, and they are grouped.... (Would be nice to bring up a pop up with only the units. But we don't have that yet)
