Lazarus jumps spontanic to parts in the source code when you try to paste. lazarus / 9-Editor ---------------------------------------------------------------------- DelFly · 2013-07-29 11:46 It happens many times, so many times that its getting annyoing. When i try to past some text, and you do that many times. It happens regulair that lazarus is jumpibg to other part of the code and then paste the code there. There must be some option to disable this weird logic. Only i dont know where, i looked around and tried a few settinsg without result. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Martin_fr · 2013-07-29 12:27 Well we need to find what triggers this jump. Is there any message in the message window? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- BigChimp · 2013-07-29 12:29 Also please specify OS, Lazarus and FPC version to save on crystal ball wear and tear. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Blaazen · 2013-07-29 12:33 I never noticed this. I know other behaviour: when you have opened many tabs in Source Editor and you rename identifier (F2), then Lazarus changes tab if identifier appears there. Plain pasting (Ctrl+V) is perfect for many years. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- DelFly · 2013-07-29 12:56 Strange, because it happens when i hit ctrl-v but not always. i always select a part of text, then hit ctrl-v. offcorse when i try to recreate the problem it dont happen,  last time it happend i jump to the decleration part of the function, so the wahere long way scolldown to get back. and it happend many times. lazarus 1.0.10 - i386 (Win8 pro 64bit - desktop ) fpc 2.6.2 svn 41613 Suggestion, it would be nice if you could copy and paste the version information from about. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- taazz · 2013-07-29 13:01 are you working on a laptop perhaps? If yes please disable the track pad just below your keyboard. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- DelFly · 2013-07-29 13:09 No laptop here.  I think it happens after some time you worked in lazarus. and did many compiles and tests.  There's really no intelligent function that get trigger ? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- taazz · 2013-07-29 13:12 on paste there is only one function that gets triggered and that is in the code tools section of the options that changes the indentation of the code to much the one you are pasting to. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- poiuyt555 · 2013-07-29 13:12 Hi. I have often this situation. It happends because: When you click CTRL (to paste by ctrl+v) LAzarus activete special mode: To see te source of the function you click by pressing CTRL+click on your function. And when you want to paste in the existing code (function|procedure, ets.) you do this. Solution: be careful when you use ctrl+v and paste into spaces between words. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- DelFly · 2013-07-29 13:18 Then now the question, how can you disable that function ? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Bart · 2013-07-29 13:22 Quote from: poiuyt555 on July 29, 2013, 03:12:38 pmWhen you click CTRL (to paste by ctrl+v) LAzarus activete special mode: To see te source of the function you click by pressing CTRL+click on your function. And when you want to paste in the existing code (function|procedure, ets.) you do this. Solution: be careful when you use ctrl+v and paste into spaces between words. Your "solution" does not make sense. Pressing Ctrl key prepares for jumping yes, but only if you then left- click on the link or press up/down arrow (or another key-combo you assigned this kind of jumping). Pressing Ctrl+V just pastes, it does nothing else. It is perfectly OK to paste "inside" a word, I do it all the time and it has never failed me. (I do suffer from the trackpad interference described by taazz though) Bart ---------------------------------------------------------------------- poiuyt555 · 2013-07-29 13:46 i mean: Often, before paste, i click ctrl and then forget about this mode and click on func/procedure where i want to pase and ... go to link. I 100% agree that "it is perfectly OK to paste "inside" a word" And my "solution" only for that case, when you already have press ctrl and you want to set your cursor to needed word by clicking.. And in that case i must be carefull. And also i may: click to needed place in func and then press ctrl+v (if i don't forget about it) this situation often repeats when you have to quicly do some coding+copy/pase and i simply forget about this mode. UPd: i think getting this problem depends of the style of your work with the text. And real solution may be - change the activate button of this mode not ctrl, but ex. some free (i don't know what is free), but ex shift or alt or ets. But i know that in many others app, like word ets..: if you want to go to the hyperlink you press CTRL+click on link. And maybe that is why do so in LAzarus. And anywhere this mode is very usefull for me, and ctrl+c|ctrl+v too usefull. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Dick, from the internet · 2013-07-29 15:09 If the CTRL key is giving you issues, you can always use SHIFT-DEL  // SHIFT-INS for cut and paste operations.   regards,       geno ---------------------------------------------------------------------- poiuyt555 · 2013-07-29 16:45 Thanks, geno. But I got used to use such combination: ctrl+c/ctrl+v. It depends of style of working with text. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- DelFly · 2013-07-29 17:39 SHIFT-DEL  // SHIFT-INS if that works on windows is not a good option. its worse for my fingers. Betetr is to know how to disable the extra function on the ctrl key. i never used it. ctrl-c / ctrl-v is normal way you use in every application. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- taazz · 2013-07-29 19:03 actually the problem with shift+ins/del is that requires either two hands or the same one, that most of the times that copy paste is used, that's on the mouse. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Dick, from the internet · 2013-07-30 03:29 Quoteactually the problem with shift+ins/del is that requires either two hands or the same one, that most of the times that copy paste is used, that's on the mouse.  I prefer to refrain from using the infernal rodent as much as possible; I like to keep my hands on the keyboard, so I use the navigation keys quiet a bit.   For me, using the shift combos is almost second nature, as I have done it this way for many years; however I know that this is probably not be the best solution for others.    regards,        geno ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Ocye · 2013-07-30 11:22 I'm using mostly Ctrl+Ins and Shift+Ins for copy/paste. And I can confirm the issue of random insertion of text. I usually copy a passage, move somewhere else, paste, and fail to compile because text has been inserted at some arbitrary position. I'm not sure if it is really the complete copied section, if it really happens on insert, and I cannot estimate how often (~10%) and in which situation it happens. The issue did not occur with release prior 1.x (?). Lazarus is from svn trunk, compiled with fpc 2.6.2 for x86_64-qt. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Martin_fr · 2013-07-30 13:02 Quote from: poiuyt555 on July 29, 2013, 03:46:36 pmAnd real solution may be - change the activate button of this mode not ctrl, but ex. some free (i don't know what is free), but ex shift or alt or ets. You can configure the mouse related stuff as you like. There is an entire page of mouse settings. You can remove the "jump" from ctrl- left-mouse, and assign it to another combination. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- DelFly · 2013-07-30 13:13 Ok, just test it. the problem in lazarus is indeed a wrong key locked on wrong function. like described above when you hold the ctrl key and press some text you jump. And i guess sometimes you dont releease the ctrl key, because normal program allow it to keep it pressed. when you then want to select a newpart of text you fly to some place in your code. Gong to try to remove the terrible ctrl function from the key. like martin say. Ok in options , disable under editor -> mouse -> ctrl button = nothing / default fixing the problem sofar i see. not sure wiy its not set to that by default ? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- poiuyt555 · 2013-07-30 14:49 Thanks, Martin_fr, DelFly. Now it works with Alt button and Ctrl is free for me..
