File Build version not showing lazarus / 9-Editor ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Newmann · 2013-07-22 10:50 Hi Guys, I ran into a very strange problem - I've looked around and could only find one similar post - but still I have no answers... Please take a look at the screenshot attached - the file version is supposed to be 3.0.0.32, but for some reason the compiler is resetting it back when I build the file... Any ideas what could be causing this and how to fix it? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- BigChimp · 2013-07-22 10:52 What happens if you try with the latest stable Lazarus? A lot of bug fixes in both Laz and FPC were made in the meantime... ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Newmann · 2013-07-22 11:37 To be quite honest - don't want to follow that route unless its absolutely necessary... (Personal preference) The only major difference I made to my program from when I last noticed it working till now, was  to add a new "main" form & swap it out with the original main. That one in turn greys out the desktop like a windows shutdown menu would in Windows XP - which coincidentally is exactly what my app does. It replaces the standard windows shutdown dialogue as a workaround for a problem with one of the systems we support at my workplace. All it does is to force our software to close (which currently prevents our customers from shutting down or restarting their computers due to a bug), and then shuts down/restarts the computer. Since we have such crappy connections in South Africa, distributing the 80Mb patch/upgrade to fix this bug is difficult - a 700Kb installer is much more efficient. (just to get them up and running again - this allows us more time to distribute the patches) I tried using normal batch files in the beginning, but this proved to be an even bigger headache. We deal with serious end users (the kind thats got roughly the IQ of a brick) - ones where I'll ask them a question like "please tell me what is displayed on you desktop", to which they go dead quiet, and if I ask them what's happening...they restarted the computer... (instead of just telling me what is displayed on the screen) Believe me when I say - incompetent is an understatement of note! So, I ended up writing this app to look almost just like the normal windows one (to keep them in their comfort zones), but just handle all the extra stuff in the background that needs to be dealt with. The version number thing isn't causing a problem - its just something that annoys me as its not working the way its supposed to... ---------------------------------------------------------------------- BigChimp · 2013-07-22 11:49 Quote from: Newmann on July 22, 2013, 01:37:57 pmSince we have such crappy connections in South Africa, distributing the 80Mb patch/upgrade to fix this bug is difficult - a 700Kb installer is much more efficient. Or are you distributing Lazarus to them!??!? Quote from: Newmann on July 22, 2013, 01:37:57 pmBelieve me when I say - incompetent is an understatement of note! Nasty. At least it's mostly nice weather for a braai though... (No guessing where my culinary preferences lie ) Edit: re the build version thing: I vaguely remember these issues popping up and I even more vaguely recall they were solved in later Laz releases... sorry I can't be of more help. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Newmann · 2013-07-22 12:03 Quote from: BigChimp on July 22, 2013, 01:49:17 pmQuote from: Newmann on July 22, 2013, 01:37:57 pmSince we have such crappy connections in South Africa, distributing the 80Mb patch/upgrade to fix this bug is difficult - a 700Kb installer is much more efficient. I'm just one of the software support guys - I do my development independently (they do the .net thing - I prefer to steer clear of it) So, lazarus doesn't have anything to do with whatever I'm distributing - its just a personal preference for me not to upgrade it at this point in time...and since it was working fine in the beginning - why is it not now? (That is "thé" question, lol) But thanks for the help - I'll install the latest copy of Lazarus on a virtual PC, compile it there, and see if it makes any difference... Oh - and seeing as you call it a braai instead of a BBQ...something tells me you have roots in SA? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- BigChimp · 2013-07-22 12:09 Good luck...
