My tab settings won't stick

Hello.
I have just installed Lazarus 9.30.4 after loosing my old version to a
hard drive failure.  I'm trying to get it set back up to what I'm used
to.

When I go to Environment>Options>Editor>General and set the Tab Width
to 2, it seems to have no effect on the IDE editor.  Can anyone tell
me where I should start to try and understand/fix this problem? 
Searched the forum, but didn't find an answer.

Have you switched off "smart indent"? (follow the link on the setting
page, or go to codetool options)

Not sure, but "smart indent" may interfere with tabs...

Yes, switching off Smart tabs did the trick.  Many thanks for your
