Question on CTRL CLICK on object name in code lazarus / 9-Editor ---------------------------------------------------------------------- snorkel · 2012-07-12 17:08 When I CTRL Click on a object it jumps to the declaration, is there a way to have it jump to the implementation? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Blaazen · 2012-07-12 17:43 When I have cursor in declaration I press Ctrl+Shift+ArrowUp to jump to implementation. Alt+ArrowUp works conversely. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Martin_fr · 2012-07-12 18:04 See http://bugs.freepascal.org/view.php?id=11030 ---------------------------------------------------------------------- eny · 2012-07-12 19:30 Quote from: Blaazen on July 12, 2012, 07:43:53 pmWhen I have cursor in declaration I press Ctrl+Shift+ArrowUp to jump to implementation. Yep, works like charm. Although a bit misleading that this alternates between declaration and implementation with the same key press. Would make more sense to have Ctrl+Shift+CuDn go down i.e. to the implementation. QuoteAlt+ArrowUp works conversely.Very weird behaviour in the class declaration when I press this ---------------------------------------------------------------------- BigChimp · 2012-07-13 06:46 Quote from: eny on July 12, 2012, 09:30:21 pmQuote from: Blaazen on July 12, 2012, 07:43:53 pmWhen I have cursor in declaration I press Ctrl+Shift+ArrowUp to jump to implementation. I got caught by this as well... but have started to live with it. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- User137 · 2012-07-13 11:16 In Delphi it was pretty cool to be able to ctrl+click to go back and forth in code. With Lazarus they separated them in 2 different functions. Still it wouldn't be impossible to make 1 function that does both. If i ctrl+click anything in a file before word "implementation", it should search the same function/procedure after implementation. Likewise if clicked a word after implementation, it should search the class where it's definition is. Only this second search can go deeper into other unit files (except if i ctrl+click a class name, it can go find its parent). ---------------------------------------------------------------------- eny · 2012-07-13 11:26 IMHO: it's working fine as it is. Moving around in the editor with the keyboard and cursor keys, as it should be. Looking higher up the hierarchy with the mouse when necessary. Clean and simple. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- User137 · 2012-07-13 11:31 It's clean, but having to learn 3 key combinations is not something i call simple ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Martin_fr · 2012-07-13 12:15 You do know, that you can configure the key mapping to your likings? (And mouse too) Of course that is, within the set of existing functionality. So you can do: - Alt-up: jump to declaration - alt-down: go to implementation (once you are on a procedure declaration) -alt-left/right: navigate the history of the declaration jumps That will be easy to remember? On the mouse, you can go forward/backward with the 4th and 5th button, if you have a 5 button mouse. But you can re-assign that to. Mind, on the mouse config, it says "Jump to implementation" in the drop down. This actually means "declaration" Using advanced mouse settings (there is a help on the wiki, try F1) you can set ctrl-right-mouse to perform the jump from declaration to implementation. --- as for having it in one click. See the link, I posted: There already is a feature requestI am already used to it myself with ctrl+shift+up/down, but i do use ctrl-click sometimes. When i ctrl- click in definition it goes to parent and it's aggravating. It's a feature that would be big bonus for new users to Lazarus, user friendliness. Feature request at linked page is a closed issue. Developers aren't even taking it seriously. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Martin_fr · 2012-07-13 14:11 Quote from: User137 on July 13, 2012, 03:39:11 pmFeature request at linked page is a closed issue. Developers aren't even taking it seriously. It is assigned, not closed. But given it's age: Yes it appears to have a lower priority. It is only ONE feature, (even ignoring the bugs, that take priority) there are many many (maybe even hundreds) other features people would like. And only a dozen people to implement them. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- BigChimp · 2012-07-13 14:18 Agreed with Martin... of course, it helps if there is a patch that integrates easily into Lazarus trunk
