fast code editing lazarus / 9-Editor ---------------------------------------------------------------------- den · 2011-07-16 14:38 Hi everyone. I Mostly like Lazarus Editor except one thing. When ctrl+space is pressed there is a hint, showing names of procedures and functions with it's parameters. But I didn't find a way to view parameters lsit of allready typed procedure. In Delphi you can type "(" or "," after procedure name and than Delphi shows a hint with all parameters and highlights the name of that parameter wich is in current position. I find it very usefull feature. Is it somehow available in Lazarus? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- typo · 2011-07-16 14:44 If you type "." after a component name, for example. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- User137 · 2011-07-16 15:02 Ctrl+Shift+Space does what you are after i think. I know Delphi shows this automatically so can just hope someday Lazarus does too. It would be extremely great addition. Retyping "." is also 1 way but is bit awkward if you have many parameters or they go many lines. And i'd only call it a "bubble gum" solution. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Martin_fr · 2011-07-16 17:44 If you haven't seen it yet, read this page: http://wiki.lazarus.freepascal.org/Lazarus_IDE_Tools It contains many more great ways to speed up your work. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- den · 2011-07-18 05:25 Thanks to everyone Special thanks to Martin_fr for the wiki URL. It's just right that kind of documantation I was looking for! ---------------------------------------------------------------------- den · 2011-07-18 06:29 Well, what can I say... I've tried Ctrl+Shift+Space. It works, but very unstable. Seems like it doesn't work with the inherited methods at all Is there any bug report about this? P.S. I've tried Lazarus 0.9.30 and 0.9.31. Results are the same... ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Zoran · 2011-07-18 09:21 Quote from: den on July 18, 2011, 08:29:30 amWell, what can I say... Results are the same... Unstable? Please describe the problems you experience. Here it works perfectly. In both 0.9.30 and 31. It does work with inherited methods. It can be invoked only when the cursor is within the brackets of a function/procedure. Out of brackets it can't be used, but that is expected behaviour, it is so by design as it wouldn't make sense otherwise, would it? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- den · 2011-07-18 10:07 Zoran, I've assured it works properly with inherited methods. Pardon  The problem was with the source code of the parent class. It had wrong declarations. I've expected an exception in that situation, but not silence...  So, I wonder if Lazarus editor can still show hint when it is unable to locate parameters declaration. In such cases there could be shown a corresponding error message. What do you think? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Zoran · 2011-07-18 10:46 Quote from: den on July 18, 2011, 12:07:06 pmSo, I wonder if Lazarus editor can still show hint when it is unable to locate parameters declaration. In such cases there could be shown a corresponding error message. What do you think?  Okay, so there isn't a bug. Plus, if I remember correctly, in Delphi it works the same way, so we might say this silence is Delphi compatible. Nevertheless, a hint balloon could pop up even when nothing is found, with something like "nothing found". Although I am used to how it works now, I believe that it is not a bad idea. If you want, you can post a feature request in bug tracker. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- den · 2011-07-18 11:38 Quote from: Zoran on July 18, 2011, 12:46:56 pm...so we might say this silence is Delphi compatible. I belive it's better to get better (Delphi is not ideal)  I think, I'll post such feature request. The hint message should be "Warning: declaration not found". ---------------------------------------------------------------------- n7800 · 2026-09-20 20:54 Just for reference - issue was created in #39408.
