Text selection with Shift and numpad

(Ubuntu 9.04 and Lazarus 0.9.29 SVN 22195)
Today I tried running Lazarus with Ubuntu. Installation/compilation
went fine, works like a charm. I can install packages, rebuild
Lazarus, the whole shebang.

However when I want to select text with the Shift+Numpad keys, nothing
happens.
There is an old topic on this subject: Shift+Numpad.
I experience the same problem: Shift+numpad selects text perfectly in
all other applications but not in the Lazarus IDE. The fun thing is,
it does  in programs created with Lazarus 
The keyboard is configured to mimic the Window$ behaviour via the
Keyboard layout options.

Any ideas on how to fix this?
