New to IDE, encountering "Error moving component" lazarus / 9-Editor ---------------------------------------------------------------------- craigTheBrit · 2007-12-07 15:28 Hi, I installed Lazarus for the first time yesterday and have been busy converting my Delphi projects (the first thing to be converted was me, and it didn't take long!). I have a rather large home-made HTML control with all sorts of properties that just won't work in the Lazarus IDE. It compiles fine and installs fine, but once I drop it on to a form I get the error "Error moving component". I've searched for this in these forums and the web, but to no avail (if one searches for "error moving component" on google you get one bizarre result...). Any thoughts? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- gerardus · 2007-12-08 12:13 The error message is misleading. This happens in  the form editor code, (TCustomFormEditor.CreateComponent), after your component has been created by the form designer, and during the component setup (coords, parent, ...)   It could be your component initialization relying on a default property value wich hasn't been set, or some code that is executed in a different order than in Delphi. Regards, Gerard. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- craigTheBrit · 2007-12-08 14:13 Thanks, you're right about the error - it was occurring in the first Paint event due to that function not being able to determine the component's width. Redrawing problems are the bane of my life at the moment...
