Lazarus seems to have problem with XkbVariant "intl&quo lazarus / 9-Editor ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Bart · 2007-12-06 12:09 Hi, I'm running Lazarus (0.9.24) on Suse Linux 10.0 Recently I decide that I would like to have "dead keys" like I have (and are used to) on Windows. So I added the "XkbVariant" "intl" to my xorg.conf. Section "InputDevice"    Identifier  "Keyboard0"    Driver      "kbd"    Option       "XkbModel" "pc105"    Option       "XkbLayout" "us"    Option       "XkbVariant" "intl"    <<-- EndSection This worked well (although not exactly as under windows) However Lazarus does not seem to like that. Whenever I try to type a single quote (') (for string constants) it places weird charactres in the IDE. If I type a single quote, it gives me an Â' (that is an capital A with a accent circumflex and then an accent ecu next to it) The cursor then is located in between these two characters. Typing a double quote (") gives me an A" (that is a capital A with an umlaut right next to it). Again the cursor is plced inbetween thes two characters. No other program I run behaves like that. Anyone seen this before? For the moment I've turned of the dead keys again... Bart ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Marc · 2007-12-06 12:29 Dead key detection in gtk is almost impossible. You won't get notified on a deadkey press/release, only on the resulting character. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Bart · 2007-12-07 14:01 I think you missed my point, or I did not make myself very clear. The IDE does not agree with XkbVariant intl setting. It seems that the retuned character ir wrong. If I try to type a single (') or double (") quote in the code editor, wrong characters appear. I did not try to write a program that detects if a dead key has been pressed. I merely tried to type something like Memo1.Lines.Add('Debug info: '), but it was impossible to type the quotes. I had to turn xkbvariant intl off first. I used to have XKbVariant intl, when I installed Suse. Some time ago I noticed that it was turned off again. Now I am wondering if that co-incided wiht the installation of Lazarus? It is not a big deal, and I can live with it, I'm just curious. Is it the Lazarus IDE? Is it my Suse? Is it me (that seems more likely given my novice skills on linux anyway)? Bart ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Marc · 2007-12-10 13:25 That is waht I'm trying to tell. detection of the key pressed is wrong for dead keys, so the reported key is wrong.
