How to use the "Object Inspector"?

Help!  I'm entirely new of Lazarus, and I don't know how to use the
dialog Object Inspector, which I think must be of great use but proves
to be useless.  How to use it on earth?

The "Object Inspector" lets you change the "Published" properties of a
component you add to a form (or other container).  Drop a Label onto a
form and see what values you can change.

You can also change them directly in it by clicking over the white
areas next to the gray ones.
