getting started with lazarus lazarus / 9-Editor ---------------------------------------------------------------------- nuklearzelph · 2005-08-04 15:09 I have done some coding with TP7, but it has been a few years. most coding i have done now has been c++ and javascript, so i am quite rusty. the lasarus ide seems a bit confusing, but i have only just looked at it. i am wondering how to get started, so i can get a project to compile and how the projects work and all. in other ide's you don't need to have a project to compile a source file, but i can't find anything like that in the ide. also, would i get away with using an old TP7 book to get up on coding in lazarus? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- glober · 2005-08-08 02:25 To get started, Select [Menu]->Project->New Project and then select 'Application' for a program which has a GUI form, or 'Program' or 'Custom Program' for a program which just has code. The best thing to do next is to name your project/program, which you do when you save it, so do [Menu]->Project->Save Project As... and save with your chosen names for project/program (and unit names if applicable). To compile, do [Menu]->Run->Build, or to compile and run do [Menu]->Run->Run. As far as TP7 goes, there should be no problems using TP7 pascal syntax. There is a TP7 setting in [Menu]->Project->Compiler Options...->Parsing. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Anonymous · 2005-08-08 03:27 thanks ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Anonymous · 2005-09-24 12:38 And you should try this website http://www.delphibasics.co.uk Someone alredy mentioned it, it's very good ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Anonymous · 2005-12-27 23:02 i have only just started using lazarus and i have no idea about any of the language i can use some delphi programming language (which i have heard lazarus isnt tht different to) it would be helpful if any one could suggest some online tutorials i could use to up my lazarus programming skills   Any Reply Will Be Most Appreciated   Thanks in advance ---------------------------------------------------------------------- felipemdc · 2005-12-28 01:10 I write mostly just like I wrote in Delphi. In fact, many of my projects can compile on both. The Wiki is a great place to know how to do things. http://wiki.lazarus.freepascal.org/index.php/Lazarus_Documentation A few things you can find there: * Lazarus tutorials * Pascal tutorials * Graphical programming tutorials * Database tutorials ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Anonymous · 2005-12-28 12:19 Thanks thats very helpfull!!!!! thanks again ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Anonymous · 2006-01-04 09:47 Sorry to post this here, but I'm not able to find a link to contact the webmaster on the whole site. My concern: I tried two times to get an account, but don't receive a password. My email-adress is valid, so there must be somethink broken with your answering system. Thanks in advance Roland ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Marc · 2006-01-05 10:55 THere is nothing wrong with the forum, from the past experience it seems that either: * users block mail from miraclec.com * users mark mail from miraclec.com as junk * the users ISP blocks mail from miraclec.com We can do nothing about it. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Anonymous · 2006-01-05 15:09 Thanks for the reply, but the three reasons you mention are simply given in my case. I tried a registration from another account over here (t-online). Same result: I don't receive the confirmation with a password, so I cannot login. Sorry to spoil this thread again. Roland ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Anonymous · 2006-01-06 15:40 Regarding the topic: if you want program without any visual components or 'forms', you'll be much better of using the free pascal IDE. Lazarus makes big executables, fp exec. are normal. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- felipemdc · 2006-01-09 23:35 They get normal after you use "strip" on them to remove debug information =) The compiler is the same. It will get bigger if you include the LCL, of cource. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- OldAl · 2006-12-31 07:27 Quote from: "sekel"I write mostly just like I wrote in Delphi. Thanks for any replies! ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Marc · 2007-01-02 12:33 wiki is down, for more info see the www.freepascal.org website
