fighting with indent in editor lazarus / 9-Editor ---------------------------------------------------------------------- blametroi · 2023-08-13 01:44 I can't quite get indent to work in a way I like. Basically I want everything to be 2 spaces for tab, and I would like the preceding source line to set the starting tab stop (ie, smart tabs). The problem I have is that when I have smart tabs enabled, the tab positions the text to the first non-blank after the keyword on the preceding line. So, for an if statement, the tab key gives me three spaces on the next line, and a for statement will give me four, etc. I've been looking at options and if there's a way to accomplish this, I don't see it. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Martin_fr · 2023-08-13 10:19 "smart tab" aligns words.. That is it goes to the begin of the "word" (the word in the line above). (words including all symbols and non-spaces) This is useful in cases like Code: Pascal  [Select][+][-]window.onload = function(){var x1 = document.getElementById("main_content_section"); if (x1) { var x = document.getElementsByClassName("geshi");for (var i = 0; i   if (a=b) or| On the 2nd line you can smart tab to be under "(a="..., so you can start "(c=d)" and have the "(" aligned. It sounds, you want to align with the end of the word. That is start the word in the next line, under the space in the line above? If that is so, it is not supported... You have options though. 1) if you always only have one single space after each keywords (to the end of which you to smart tab). Record an editor macro, "tab" + "cursor left". Assign it to a key of your choice. (you can even assign it to the tab key) https://wiki.freepascal.org/IDE_Window:_Editor_Macros 2) Write a more complex macro https://wiki.freepascal.org/Editor_Macros_PascalScript You need to script finding the position in the line above, and then set it in the line you want.... You can make a feature request on the bug tracker to "smart tab to end of word above". But currently that is likely to end in a long waiting list.
